What is the drink? Seriously, I'm a recovering alcoholic and member of AA, and I've had other alcoholics tell me they only drank one drink a day but the "one drink" had 8 shots in it.

One beer a day probably isn't going to hurt anyone even if you "need" it. But 8 shots in one glass, well, that's a problem.

A drink a day will not kill you nor would I consider it in the realm of alcoholism. Most doctors say a glass of red wine is supposed to be good for the heart.

Here are alcoholism signs that are listed in no special order:
1. Drinking alone
2. Making excuses, finding excuses to drink
3. Daily or frequent drinking needed to function
4. Inability to reduce or stop alcohol intake
5. Violent episodes associated with drinking
6. Drinking secretly
7. Becoming angry when confronted about drinking
8. Poor eating habits
9. Failure to care for physical appearance
10. Trembling in the morning

Additional alcoholism signs can include inability to remember some of the events of the previous evening or feeling anxious in a social situation where there is no alcohol. As you may know, it can be called 'problem drinking' when it becomes 'drinking that causes problems'.

Do they need or want the drink?
An alcoholic is someone who's life is affected by alcohol and/or someone who can't stop drinking alcohol. So if they need the one drink to function every day then yes. If they just want that one drink and could stop at any time without their life being affected then no.

I hate that you're going via this. One piece of recommendation I can deliver you, since you're 12, is to stay up for an afternoon while he comes dwelling sober and inform him that you just desire to speak to him approximately what he's doing to himself and the loved ones and the way it's hurting every body adding himself. Most alcoholics do not notice that they come to be another man or woman once they drink and as a consequence harm the ones round them with out a regard. If you do that and it does not paintings, then take a look at stepping into touch with a counselor. Most of the time, they are going to advocate what you must do. I didnt have an abusive father, nevertheless, I had approximately four inebriated uncles that I was once round such a lot of my formative years. I realize the abuse, whether or not it had been verbal or bodily. I am sorry that you're going via this relatively.

The operative word here is "NEEDS". If they they truly need a drink then they may have the predisposition to an alcoholic.....I don't think that just having one drink a day is bad but a true alcoholic can't stop at just one

No. If they NEED a few drinks a day then they probably are an alcoholic. One drink a day is nothing.

unless that one drink is a long island iced tea with 5 shots of alcohol is seems a little silly that someone could be an alcoholic by consuming one drink which is a half an once of alcohol. Personally, one beer barely makes me feel anything.
I agree with monalisa.

One drink a day, I think no. If you need a drink before you tackle a certain situation, then yes. The question is if you NEED a beer or if you WANT a beer.

If it is just one drink and the person still functions, then i would say no. but it could spiral into something worse if the person is not careful
