I want everyone's comment on how we will reduce the global warming and why? Are we doing it? When are we starting, if not doing it yet.

Anyone out here got an electric Motofino scooter/moped? I am looking to see what they have problems with (if anything) I should know about, before I purchase it. I am familiar with their gas bikes, which are not too bad, but they are not Japanese either.

I only have to commute 3 miles, and it is not bumpy or hilly.

I already have 3 other bikes, I just want to support the electric vehicle route for my commute.

Sometimes it's hard keeping up with the skeptics as they frequently change their line of argument.

Not so long back many global warming skeptics confidently proclaimed that the world was cooling and that they could prove it (2°C was a figure often quoted).

Then they announced that it was neither warming or cooling and that they could prove this too.

They then changed their collective minds again and adamantly stated the world was warming but it was entirely natural and that they again had proof.

Now we're seeing yet another shift with more and more skeptics stating that we are after all, affecting the climate but that it's a good thing.

So what do you think a common line of argument used by skeptics over the coming months might be?

Also, given that so many skeptics continually change their minds and regularly contradict themselves, doesn't this harm any credibility they or their arguments may have?

3) Due to burning of fossil fuels, atmospheric CO2 (a greenhouse gas) has increased 37% since the Industrial Revolution.

4) As the AGW theory predicts and contrary to solar warming, the upper atmosphere is cooling as the lower atmosphere warms.

The Oregon Petition in it's present form is a petition organised by Professor Frederick Seitz essentially stating that global warming is natural and beneficial. The scientific community is well aware of it's existence and it's available online for easy downloading and printing (it has to be submitted by post).

There are at least 10 million eligible people in the US alone that can sign it, all a person needs is a BSc, MSc or PhD; it doesn't even need to be in a field related to any of the climate sciences.

Out of 10 million+ people (in the US alone) the sum total of approx 200 have signed it, why would such a minute proportion of educated people choose to sign the petition (0.02%)?

Pleae note, this is the revised Oregon Petition, not the original fraudulent one which was first raised in 1997.

China is much more 'ungreen' than the USA, but yet we don't have Mr. Gore banging his fists on the table about China. The rest of the world should be outraged, but I don't hear anything about it. Why is the USA the bad guy? It is clearly China!

"This is the beginning, not the end," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We will have to engage in more complex, long and difficult negotiations."

The document does not commit countries to specific actions against global warming. It was limited to setting an agenda and schedule for negotiators to find ways to reduce pollution and help poor countries adapt to environmental changes by speeding up the transfer of technology and financial assistance.

The world has its own system of heating and cooling vastly more powerful than mankind. Seems totally pointless to fight it. Why dont we work with it and look to surviving with it rather than fighting it.

Out of all the leaders at the Bali Conference on climate change and global warming, how come George Bush was the only one to refuse to set limits? Is he trying desperately to curry favour with the American people and Big Business by
refusing to restrict the use of fossil fuels?
Or is it simply that , not content with destroying so many young U.S. soldiers' lives in Iraq, he now wants to destroy the World by global warming?

ok, so me and my friend tend to have friendly debates about politics on IM. for the first time in a few weeks, we got INFURIATED with each other aobut global warming. he thinks its an unimortant issue thats just a scam, and of course i strongly disagree. somehow, the conversation got to how oil effects animals after a spill. he was saying "birds are jsut birds" and now that i think about it, i didnt have any good info to back myself about why global warming was important or why birds matter to the environment. Any insight on this?

To reduce global warming, we need to reduce two things: coal and gasoline (oil). Isn't reducing coal and gas better for our economy in the long run?

For coal, the cost from producing electricity from burning coal compared to nuclear are about the same (http://www.world-nuclear.org/reference/pdf/rae-report.pdf). The difference is that coal emits mercury that poisons fish. This has reduced sales in fish, affecting the entire fishing industry.

For oil, higher gas prices set by OPEC has put enormous stress on the U.S. economy. Reducing carbon emissions will require that automakers make cars that get better gas mileage. If drivers don't need as much gas, people won't be hurting so much when gas prices go up again. The financial markets won't fluctuate as much in the future, solidifying our economy.

If carbon reductions can be better for the economy, why are people so afraid?

I thought the bald eagles was America's national animal emblem. Now I hear that it is extinct in the wild because people shoot the wild birds.

Not much fun having a national emblem in a cage like a budgerigah. How many Americans have seen their Bald eagle in natural flight?

In 1999, oil was $9 a barrell. I see many SUV's but not with big families in them, usually a single person and on a cell phone too.

Homes are being built bigger and bigger as well, huge houses and the families aren't that big.

What can be done about wasting energy; is carpooling a good place to start? TY
