One comment to those who dont like Al Gore, or some one else or Global warming itself. I would like to ask them are you doing things efficiently or wasting resources which you have no right on. Did you ever thought that you could do things little differently which will have less waste and add less pollution to the enviornment?

That had happenned because of the hole in the Ozone layer of the atmosphere. Main considering factors for this are pollutions and rockets going to the sky damaging the outer layer. That can not be repaired but arrangements can be made for no further loss.

Green revolution is best for this.Even pollution created by the transportation and the factories are the combining factors. This is not a one man job first of all small institutions should come forward.

Government should take some steps for the plantations. Polutting vehicle should be taken off the road.

Rosie, With regard to the enslavement comment, he does have a point. Your original question implies that you are concerned about global warming, you think it's a problem, and you are now wondering what you can do about it. I hope that's right because that appears to be your thinking right now. Now let's talk hypothetically for a minute. Let's say we are now in a period of global cooling. And through further research we discover that this period of cooling is due to reduced solar activity and sunspot activity combined with a 30 year cool phase of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation? Now let's fast forward to 2020 where global temperatures are slowly going down and are predicted to continue a downward cooling trend until at least 2050. This is going to cause great hardship on mankind, much more than any warming would have. So now here we are in 2020 and we look back at 2009 and try to figure out why you thought you had to reduce CO2 or whatever else man was doing in the belief that man was doing most of the warming the planet when all along mother nature had control of (most of) the climate just like always. Then you need to look at how you came to that wrong belief. This is where enslavement comes into play again. Enslavement is getting someone to follow a doctrine to the benefit of the person dictating the doctrine. This usually sounds sinister at first glance, but if you studied history at all you can find the road to hell littered with well meaning people and ideas. And just note, that one of the features of a doctrine of this nature is that is presented as good and right and even moral and any contrary opinion is something to be reviled. Also note that science does not work in that manner. In the end, I'm not saying this is true for you and climate change, but you'd be niave not to at least give it a little serious thought about if not for your current cause but how you choose to follow subsequent causes. Be independent, thoughtful, curious and objective.

I organically farm. I have a windmill to generate electricity and sell excess energy back to the power company. I'm trying to get permission for more windmills. I compost. I recycle. I use hybrid vehicles. I have solar power on my barn. I DON'T believe that global warming is influenced unduly by humans and I believe that it's a natural occurrence. I don't think we SHOULD try to influence the earth or her cycles.

I'm doing all these things and I don't believe in global warming as a "movement". I do them to be a good steward of the earth. What are YOU doing?

My personal view is that we should be spending time and money NOW figuring out how we, as a species, will adapt to the coming climate change as this ice age ends. Ice ages have come and gone before. This is nothing new in the history of the world. It's only new to man. We need to start moving our cities away from the coasts (as water levels rise). We need to start planning for water shortages in some areas and dealing with higher humidity and longer summers in most other regions. We need to prepare for the diseases that warmer, more humid weather will bring.

We must stop polluting, and that is a fact.
We shall stop poisoning our planet to the point to make our life unsustainable.
But that will not stop global warming, because it is not the real cause, or at least not the main one.
The real cause is a cyclical increase of solar radiation which alters our ionosphere and alters clouds formation.
Clouds are an effective screen that make our planet whiter and more reflective, which means that a greater portion of solar radiation is reflected back into space.
To fight global warming we should find a way to screen and reflect some of the solar radiation back into space.
We already have the technology to do that.
Too bad that "political correctness" gets in the way.

There is really nothing we can do, unless we can cool down the sun, or create more clouds.
People tell us that, to "stop" global warming, we need to cut down on our use of fossil fuels. This is simply an unrealistic goal. Countries who make agreements to curb their CO2 output end up increasing emissions. The Kyoto Protocol is one of the worst failures among these treaties.

Even if cutting down on fossil fuel use was possible, it would be extremely costly to our economy.
We shouldn't try to take such drastic measures when we don't even know for sure what is causing the earth to warm, or whether or not it will be harmful (it certainly never has been in the past).

there is no way to stop global warming, it is a cyclical phenomenon that has been going on for hundreds of millions of years.
what you are talking about is the THEORY of increased global warming due to the influence of man. just remember that 30 years ago the same proponents of the man made theory were claiming that mans influence was going to cause an ice age. of course no evidence other than cyclical climate changes are offered. one volcanic eruption adds more so called greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere than man could in 1000 years.

We need to understand the causes of global warming before we think about reducing global warming. Greenhouse gas production should be brought to minimum and prouction of thermal energy due to the usage of bulbs and other machinery shold be brought to low. In this way we need to sensibly respond to our surroundings. Do not burn any plastcis, rubber tyres, and anything openly, which causes introduction of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

So educate yourself before you start participating in the global environmental concerns, like global warming.

afforestration. it causes a lot of damage. ozone layer protects tghe earth from ultra violet rays from the sun. due the deforestion and various chemicals released by industies and human activities the ozone layer is destroyed. the gases released were causing damage to the ozone layer. due to this there is formation of holes. when the release of these gases is becoming more and more.,the hole is becoming wider and wider. this results in the global warming (more ultra violet rays are reaching the earth). there will be an increase in the temperature. one of the destructions are
antarctica has ice deserts becoz the sun rays are slanting over this region. when global warming is caused all the ice melts............................hope u understand wat will happen.

our government started many programmes to reduce the global warming. but it is not being implemented properly. slowly all are realising the effect of global warming.

Drive Smart!
A well-tuned car with properly inflated tires burns less gasoline—cutting pollution and saving you money at the pump. If you have two cars, drive the one with better gas mileage whenever possible. Better yet, skip the drive and take public transit, walk, or bicycle when you can.

Write your leaders now. Urge them to raise fuel economy standards to 40 miles per gallon.
Modern technology can make our cars and trucks go farther on a gallon of gas. It's the biggest single step we can take to curb global warming. The less gasoline we burn, the less CO2 we put into the air. Taking this step would also save nearly 4 million barrels of oil a day — more oil than we currently import from the Persian Gulf and could ever extract from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge combined. And by saving gas, you save nearly $2,000 at the pump over the life of your car.

Support clean, renewable energy.
Renewable energy solutions, such as wind and solar power, can reduce our reliance on coal-burning power plants, the largest source of global warming pollution in the United States. Call your local utility and sign up for renewable energy. If they don't offer it, ask them why not?

Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.
Especially those that burn the longest each day. Compact fluorescents produce the same amount of light as normal bulbs, but use about a quarter of the electricity and last ten times as long. Each switch you make helps clean the air today, curb global warming, and save you money on your electricity bill.

Saving energy at home is good for the environment and for your wallet.
Start with caulking and weather-********* on doorways and windows. Then adjust your thermostat and start saving. For each degree you lower your thermostat in the winter, you can cut your energy bills by 3 percent. Finally, ask your utility company to do a free energy audit of your home to show you how to save even more money.

Become a smart water consumer.
Install low-flow showerheads and faucets and you'll use half the water without decreasing performance. Then turn your hot water heater down to 120°F and see hot-water costs go down by as much as 50 percent.

Buy energy-efficient electronics and appliances.
Replacing an old refrigerator or an air conditioner with an energy-efficient model will save you money on your electricity bill and cut global warming pollution. Look for the Energy Star label on new appliances or visit their website at www.energystar.gov to find the most energy-efficient products.

Plant a Tree, protect a forest.
Protecting forests is a big step on the road to curbing global warming. Trees "breathe in" carbon dioxide, but slash-and-burn farming practices, intensive livestock production, and logging have destroyed 90 percent of the native forests in the United States. And you can take action in your own backyard — planting shade trees around your house will absorb CO2, and slash your summer air-conditioning bills.

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!
Producing new paper, glass, and metal products from recycled materials saves 70 to 90 percent of the energy and pollution, including CO2, that would result if the product came from virgin materials. Recycling a stack of newspapers only 4 feet high will save a good-sized tree. Please...buy recycled products!

Mount a local campaign against global warming.
Educate your community about how it can cut global warming pollution. Support measures at the national, state, and local level that:

Make automobiles go further on a gallon of gas;
Accelerate the use of clean, renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind;
Increase energy efficiency and conservation; and
Preserve forests around the world.

global warming passed tipping point last century (inuit's or eskimo talk's)The little we can do to keep our atmosphere breatheable is to elect leader's that are aware the oxygen carbon change in global warming is next on the list of to do right now or suffer asthmatic blue planet homosapien's with no alternative remedy for breatheing. so elect a leader that is gungho for breatheable earth atmosphere, the polar air was unbreatheable when I left in 1982-it should arrive soon
