I see it in retail stores for displays and signs. I think it must be horrible for the environment. It is used for temporary signs than thrown away. I am in need of a rigid signboard that is recycled or at least sustainable.

can't think of it...I'm sure there's a word...I think it connects directly with the using up of natural resources, such as coal.

For every two barrels of coal used, ONE barrel is produced.

I was curious if anyone had any examples of people doing things that hurt the environment...and could be easily rectified with some simple ways. I wanna hear crazy things...like putting 6pack holders into the ocean.

Instead of carting it down to the plant? If all you had to do was throw your compostables into a different bag and they came and removed both, would you be willing to do it?

Just curious, if I used an oil-burning lamp to make my way around the home, would it be better than turning on energy-efficient bulbs from room to room? The oil burning lamp would use a fossil fuel and emit CO, but the lights in each room would have the energy use of the "big draw" when you first turn them on. And if energy efficients are better, would nuclear power plants have more or less global impact than coal-burning ones?

And how about when taking in other considerations, such as only using machine when full, using economy settings, handwashing only after shower or other hot water source has filled pipes with hot water, using a rinse tube when hand washing rather than faucet rinsing, any others that you can think of that might change which is better.

What if only one person cared about you?
What would you do about it?
How would you live?
What would you do to others?
What would you do in your spare time?
Would you disguise your self and go to school?
If you were an alien with super powers, what would you do?
How would you act and behave?
Would you get a grudge against others?
How would you treat your enviroment?
What would you think?
How will you survive?
Will you act normal as an alien?
Would you answer this question?
(Be for real)
Will you try to change others minds?
Would you hide your self?
Would you commit suicide?
How will you react to your surroundings?
Will you risk taking a risk?
Would you stay in one place or travel? How?
Will you siriously reply to these stupid questions? Answer perfectly, and you will get 10 points (aka best answer). Blah. What a waste of time and 5 points. No one will answer, anyway.
Are gonna answer or not?

The week before last my bf and I where having a movie night on the coach. A friend had lent us the incovient truth. We watched it and I think the only coment that was made was, my god, how did bush win against him. But then we went to bed. I dreamt about the drowning polar bears and ice caps. Nothing was done. Then last week my other half was asking me to come watch something, He had tapped the al gore interview in regards to apec. At this point we had a bit of a talk and decided that we wanted a better future especially if we decided to have kids. We are only in our 20s and we rent our house so we arnt very sure now what else we can do to reduce our carbon emissions?

So far we have:
- Bought 'green shopping bags'
- changed our electrisity to hydro and wind
- Changed to energy efficant light globes
- planted and tree each in the back yard.

Any other surgestions would be most aprecated.

2007 Honda FIT. I bought the sport automatic. Honda promised 32 city/ 38 highway. I expected to lose a few mpg but I get from 22 to 27 mpg when driving very carefully. I understand those things that lower mileage but this is ridiculous. . .And then I find out you can only carry a total of 850 pounds total in the car and I have 5 seat. Sure hope nobody has a heavy purse or wants to go shopping. . . I guess I could throw out the spare tire. . .

Like making a simple wind turbine or solar powered device (notice I didn't say solar panel). Something like that.

...which we had before computers. Remember the paperless office which computers were supposed to give us? Well every year I and my colleagues generate more and more papers because the more people use computers the more documents they send and the more you have to print out the stuff they send.

Why do I print it out? Not sure. Could be:

It's easier to deal with information in hard copy form.
It's easier to file it and find it again.

Whatever the reason, it's not good for the environment, or for office space for that matter. Any tips?

I am in my mid 30's, married, have two children, bought a house in a rural small town, got a pickup truck and suddenly realized that I now what I had always despised. It all started quite simply. I got married, had a child and then the wife decided that we needed to buy a house. The problem is that she is a career student, so we are living off my income. So, when she started looking at house loans, she found a no down payment government loan that required us to buy a house in a rural town. I had always biked to work, so my wife's car was always enough. But, now that we would be living out of town, my father-in-law offered to give me his old pickup, so that I would have a vehicle. So, now, I can no longer cycle to work, and have to drive miles to go shopping. This is how I became a redneck. Guess I'm SOL. Any advice?

Electric or Gas, Gas or Electric?
I WANT SOLAR
I need to convert my old oil furnace and all the ducting to a new energy system. What about solar? If that's not a viable option, wouldn't an electric furnace be better than natural gas one? I don't want to use fossil fuels anymore than is absolutely necessary or required because of lack of other options. Electricity can be powered by wind and solar if you buy "green" with your utility. It's too bad the oil money stifles development of alternatives. The worlds oil productions have peaked and are now in decline, as evidenced by the US. In the 70's the US WAS the Saudi Arabia of oil. Not to mention all the polutents I would spare all of us, if I could go solar. Hasn't anyone out there accomplished this? If so, please share?
Sincerely, Tracy

Oil Palm plantations are growing at rapid rates in the tropical nations of Indonesia and Malaysia. These lands were once covered by upwards to 90% rain forest just a century ago, while that has declined presently to less than 50%. This is due largely to oil palm plantations. Palm oil has been used historically as a cooking and cosmetics additive with other uses. However, the palm oil industry is now booming with its realization of clean energy. Europe has turned to this clean energy in hopes of reducing the global warming problem. Palm oil is about 8-10 times as efficient as ethanol for power. However, rainforests are being slashed and burned at record rates in these nations, to make room for more palm oil plantations. These areas which were a rich are for trees and plants as well as animals are now being turned into an oil palm monoculture for profits. Think about how the atmosphere is effected when dense rain forests are being burnt down at blinding speeds.

Answer these three questions, please:

When so solar panels generate power, day or night?

When do people usually charge the batteries of their electric cars, day or night?

Since cars charge at night and solar power comes in the day, where does the electricity that charges your car come from?

P.S. Another question you should ask yourself that goes along with this theme: When do you turn the lights on in your house?
