If so how and what are you doing?

Just because you question it, it doesn't make you an idiot. It makes you an idiot to follow something blindly without looking into it. We don't know enough about the issue yet, and to say that everyone should accept it as gospel truth is stupid. Form your own thoughts, people.

He preaches about global warming but just look at him. His electric bill aside, one of the biggest polluters is factory farming and Gore looks like he enjoys his McDonald's. How can he say he cares about the environment and overconsume like that?

Why can't people see that they're just being used as political pawns with this global warming issue? Gore has incited a panic over this issue in the same way the Bush and the right wing republicans incited a moral panic over the gay marriage issue in 2000.

The claim is that Global Warming is melting the Antarctic glaciers and when 2 of the largest break off, it could easily raise the ocean level 20 feet. If that happens, the coasts flood, and MILLIONS across the globe move inland. Is this going to happen?

Much is being said about this issue and yet I see smoke going up everyday, thick black smoke at times. From industrial chimneys, car fumes etc. space crafts even deliver directly into the sky.

Here in Africa there is little concern for global temperature (so it seems).

If the globe is warming because of the various things already sent into the atmosphere, are we working to just stop sending more of such things into the atmosphere or are we also trying to remove what is there already?

I want to start being more green. I talk about it all the time but now I want to start doing something about it. I obvioulsy can't encourage my freinds to do something also, unless I set an example.

BUT.

There are many Offset Carbon Footprint sites around (I've been looking at www.climatecare.org).

Which one is geniunely the best to use?

We got an early start this year in the Atlantic and the Pacific. Will we have another Katrina disaster? As a Floridian I fear that my home, work, environment will be distroyed. Will the building codes stand up against a hurricane that is altered by the new climate? What if a Katrina were to hit Washington D.C. ? Is that what it would take for the federal govenment to take this issue seriously?

So much science and math go into this debate that you are stupid if your only justification is what Al Gore and Sheryl Crow have to tell you. Stop thinking you are so much smarter than everyone else and get a B.S., not an art degree, and come back to the table and speak intelligently.

Even though the world has warmed up and cooled down many times in its history, it has been warming up extensively. Global warming is not caused by the sun itself; if that were so, all hope would be lost. It is caused by greenhouse gases trapping in Earth's heat. Some argue that other gases in our pollution would dim out the sun, canceling out global warming. However, that is no longer the case as those gases are removed from pollution to meet government standards. Greenhouse gases are still being released. While many news sources try to equally release the opinion of scientists, making it seem 50-50, that is not true. It is not necessary, in fact, as science is not politics. There are very few skeptics among scientists(of course, stop bribing them and they'll agree). People, global climate change is not a matter of whether you believe. It is a matter whether you decide to listen to the facts or deny them. If you listen, it makes the problem easier to solve together.

I don't have money for a hybrid but that is a long term goal of mine.

So what are some small easy ways I can easily accomplish to go green?

It seems that all the reports, blogs etc. are gloomy.
But aren't some areas benefitting from climate change.
It would be nice to hear some good news for a change.

I was reading some of the 'answers' to my parody, and I came across the common theme that people don't believe we have the technology to live on other planets.

I guess you're gonna say the moonlanding was filmed in holywood too? Although the moon is 'techncially' not a planet... people did 'live' on it for a short period of time.

It's not that I didn't expect stupid replies... it was a rather stupid parody insulting alot of people, but these people seriously sounded like they believed we don't have the technology to build an enclosed city on another planet... or even do simple terraforming.

Well, we might not be smart enough to terraform seeing how brilliant a job we did with Mother Earth but its not improbable.

Of course living on venus is strictly absurd. If the atmosphere doesn't kill you, it'll disolve whatever you put in it.

In my country there is lots of polution. As a current NY resident, there is even more polution, I lived in Copenhagen and most people ride their bikes to work, shopping, for fun, etc it seems the Global Warming has caused a huge effect on Danes.

I currently reside in London, such a beautiful city but why isnt there more conciousness to encourage people to ride their bikes instead of driving? Wouldnt it be better in many ways? i.e. Less traffic, less polution, less harm to the earth...

What do you think? how are you contributing to the city on London to reduce damage?

Must be a lot of CO2 released this way. Shouldn't we immediately ban carbonated beverages to prevent Global Warming?

And what about Paintball guns and other CO2 powered devices? Should we not ban anything containing CO2 that can be released into the atmosphere?

The quicker we do this, the sooner Global warming can be controlled...right?.

I've read over the past few hours that Global Warming will make the only fresh source of water be in Canada.

First off, desalination is allways a ready process... and you don't even need fuel to do it. (Survival 101), simply get a pan, and a opaque plastic sheet (not wrap) and fold the sheet into a tent, the sun will evaporate the water and the water will dribble down as deionized H2O. (Even days of pumping means after that time, there would be a steady stream)

Even besides that, rain will always occur. Think of the atmosphere like a sponge, eventually all this heat will cause the sponge to rapidly fill with water (evaporation) and then, when full, the sponge has to release water back down again. (Don't cite deserts... there are geographic reasons for that. And it DOES rain in a desert) (And YES, Polution can cause 'acid rain' but only once)

So explain this 'theory' without saying 'It just is' or 'Wikipedia said so' or 'I heard it from a guy who knows Stephen Hawking'

After all, dawinism states 'survival of the fittest'. Looks around the american nation... well, at least the 'blubber' will help them float. Perhaps thats why an American spokesman is running around the world informing people of global warming... because he fears being /Left Behind/. After all, if you believe in god, you must believe that man can't do anything to override god's power and thus this is the second comming of the flood... to wash away the unbelievers... those... scientologists. Everyone knows the only real science is Astrology. And why SHOULD we care about earth... we have 8 other planets to inhabit, it'd be wonderful to see some Venitian women, or we could be martians... I wanna be a martian :D. I could go to Mars University and drop out just like Fry. Ooh, and we could solve global warming in the same way... by having a 'nuclear winter'. So we should drop the big one, just like in Randy Newman's "Political Science". And it was both politics and science that caused GW.

gas mileage requirements that must by met by automakers are rated by average mileage of all cars that they make... so when you buy a smaller car, you are allowing them to make more big gas guzzlers. wonder if anyone has thought about suing them for taking advantage of you?
