I read some where that gasses and other stuff released when we cut down the rainforest causes a greenhouse affect. Is this a possible big contributer to global warming? If so how come you never here about the rainforest any more on the news? Wouldn't they make a bigger deal about it instead of all the little things?

Yaddi, Yadda, Yaddi - beside the Great Freeze that we were warned about and how we should give money to these groups to stop the freeze.** Remember this one - groups were screaming how we were destroying the coral eco-system and that we had to fix it. So, again give us money and we will fix it. Of course in reality lets make up stuff and scream bloody murder just to fulfill are higher than mighty ECO-SELFS and pretend to care about the ECO-SYSTEM - should be what it is called. Check out this article - (which you notice doesn't get the super duper coverage as you get with todays GREEN ECO-FREAK SHOW... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070608/ap_on_re_us/tire_reef_blunder

Oh, by the way, I am for taking care of the planet...I just don't buy into every ECO-FREAK out there.

I am only 13, so i may have a broad outlook on these types of things. But i know that the gov't i spending billions and billions of dollars on new prototypes to go explore mars. PROTOTYPES!?!?! Some people say this is to explore new places to live in case we ever "use up the world", sort to speak. Dont you think this money could have been used for better things? Like for one how about we try to make more hybrid cars? Or newer ways to travel without using as much harmful fossil fuels. This in turn would slow down global warming and lessen the need to search for alternative living. But this is just a 13 year olds outlook on things. What do you think?

Urban Sprawl in the U.S. is continue at a frightening rate. Back in 1978, the U. S. reached a sustainable population growth rate. This meant that all U.S. births annually, were equivalent to the number of annual deaths. This would allow for the country to maintain the current population level with no increase. Since then we have allowed people from over crowded and under educated countries to come here Illegally. This has spread unabated like a wind whipped fire gobbling up every thing in it's path to include gobbling up our forests and farmland with Global Warming Urban Sprawl.

I would like the opinions of others... do you think these situations are similar?

1. The logic that global warming isn't real because they can’t see it (i.e. the temperatures are colder on a specific day or we had record snow falls in this area, etc).
2. The Sun revolves around the Earth because it looks like it does.

The earth has went through many changes without human interuption, such as volcanos, asteroids, and drought. Can anyone direct me to evidence that human beings are causing climate change in this era.

Just trying to guage opinion so short answers are fine.

To what extent do you agree with the following...

1) Anthropogenic (human) Global Warming (AGW) is real.

2) AGW is a myth created as an excuse to raise taxes.

3) Scientists do not understand the mechanisms which cause climate change.

4) The planet may be warming but this is not unusual and there have been periods of similar warming in the past.

5) Most scientists can't even agree if climate change is occuring

6) If there was an increase in the amount of greenhouse gases from natural sources (oceans, soil, cattle, decomposition etc) this would lead to, or contribute to, global warming.

7) If global warming was happening, there is nothing we can do to stop it.

8) Climate change is the biggest threat currently facing humanity.

9) Proponents of climate change need to learn the facts.

10) Skeptics of climate change need to learn the facts.

Thanks for your time.

on global warming/climate change, you are silenced, funds are taken away and you are shunned from the scientific community. Are there specific examples of this? I'm having trouble finding reliable sources and credentials for these dissenters. Links would help. Thanks

But this is more of a debate... about the greenhouse effect/global warming. First of all, i just wanna say that yes there is global warming happening, HOWEVER, we are not doomed to destroy earth if we do not alter our daily lives. Basically this mindset i am in right now has started since the middle of winter in the great state of florida. Northern Florida. Anywho, since it is northern florida our trees shed their leaves (cept the pines of course and palms), and regrow them in spring. This winter however was warmer, and our trees did NOT shed their leaves. I dont want to be ignorant but it seems like i am the only one that has confidence in our planet's way of rebalancing itself. If the temperatures continue to increase the trees will not shed their leaves, and if this does not help, when the heat gets too much for when the trees around the northern hemisphere and around Canida's latitude which is in fact 3/4 of the trees in the world, to not shed their leaves, we will have less CO2.

Does this mean that we will have a new measurement for 'sea level'[ and as a consequence Everest will effectively be 'shorter' than it is now...in fact all measurements that are quoted as a height above sea level.

This possibly means that some munro's in Scotland will fall below 3,000 feet above sea level and will no longer be classified as Munro's...or does it!

The statistics cannot be wrong. (see "An Inconvenient Truth"). The numbers keep on getting hotter throughout the decades and they are not slowing down. Global warming is hot and so is hell. Can this be the warning of the beginning of the end?

I just want your opinions ;)
