I am only 13, so i may have a broad outlook on these types of things. But i know that the gov't i spending billions and billions of dollars on new prototypes to go explore mars. PROTOTYPES!?!?! Some people say this is to explore new places to live in case we ever "use up the world", sort to speak. Dont you think this money could have been used for better things? Like for one how about we try to make more hybrid cars? Or newer ways to travel without using as much harmful fossil fuels. This in turn would slow down global warming and lessen the need to search for alternative living. But this is just a 13 year olds outlook on things. What do you think?

The Mars exploration prototypes are coming out of NASA's budget, so that money wouldn't go to the research you suggest unless NASA's funding were cut and the money diverted elsewhere. Additionally, NASA's funding already has been cut, and they do global warming research. The fact that their funding was cut makes it hard for them to do this research already.

I do agree with you that we should change our priorities and put more money toward encouraging alternative fuel technology, but the specific example you gave doesn't really apply. You're on the right track though.

I have read the the ozone layer is starting heal it's self now slowly, so I guess we are doing something right. There is a lot of money going into different research for alternative fuel, but some aren't reliable or there are hard to get. I also read that they found a great source in the deep ocean but it's hard to get because it's so far down and when they try to bring it up it brakes. I forget the name of it though.

Some states are putting out stricter pollution laws like when the car has to be inspected, inspection has higher emmissions standards.

Also it's hard to get people to switch their ways. Hybrid cars aren't as popular, and the problem is people don't really care as much.

How do we go about deciding what dreams to toss out to prevent a given problem? We all come into this world, consume resources, then die. What we do with that middle part is what makes it all worthwhile. If our whole reason for existence is to decrease the use of resources, then we should just skip the middle part, and never exist at all. That doesn't mean that we should selfishly take away from others' ability to do what they feel is worthwhile with the middle part. It's all about striking a balance - and each of us have an idea about what "balance" means.

One of the things that makes life worthwhile is the pursuit of dreams and the unknown - such as space exploration. Your question is valid, though...how much do we spend in those pursuits? Where is the balance?

As far as hybrid cars go, we are currently making more hybrids than people are buying. I own a hybrid. I'm thinking of buying another. The government can spend money building hybrids, but that won't make people buy them. When I bought my hybrid, it influenced my neighbor to buy one - just like how he bought an electric mower after seeing how nice and friendly mine was.

If you make people think that they are going to have to sacrifice their dreams for yours, they are not as likely to listen to you. If however, you live your life by example, and show how we can accomplish more of our dreams through the sharing of ideas and common goals, then you will have made a valuable ally.

We live in a capitalistic society, which in my opinion would place the global warming crisis mostly in the hands of corporations. I know it sounds very unethical or immoral that the government wouldn't help us, but honestly, the government cares more about money than the Earth. Why do you think they don't sign the Kyoto treaty? Space exploration is a government thing. Global warming, why not make a profit off it?

Its fun to explore, NASA's budget is only like 21 billion a year the total budget is like Trillions the military is over 250 billion. We really can't be sure that Humans are causing Global warming, it may be a natural cycle because even Mars has been warming up. Maybe we can Colonize Mars one day if the earth becomes too hot. Mars will be perfect then

These new studies of Mars, is because Mars atmosphere is composed mostly of greenhouse gases. they are trying to get some idea how they would effect earth's climate.
the only other way to accomplish this, besides exploring other planets, is to allow global warming to continue uninterupted, so we could watch it occur. doesn't sound like a good idea does it?

But yeah, the government does waste far too much money.

Hi, I'm 12.

The government does waste way too much money, but why would they spend it on more hybrid cars. It would be better if they eliminated many departments of the government and reduced taxes. Then, people who really cared about global warming could afford a hybrid car or donate to an environmental charity. I personally do not believe global warming is happening because of man, so I don't believe the government should pass legislature that sacrifices our economy for a THEORY, but if environmentalists want to fix the "problem", they should buy hybrids themselves instead of getting others to.

What do I know? I'm only 12.

Liberals did no longer arise with international warming. Scientists who're interior the sector and reading it stumbled on it to be occurring. they actually went to congress and the senate in 1988 first, to warn them of the consequence of world warming. right here's a clue for you, the monied pastimes who argue against international warming are the oil, coal and ability pastimes. they're those investment the conservative politicians of their districts to call international warming bullsh*t. i assume their paid propaganda labored on you. Why do ignorant human beings continuously think of that great company pastimes are the sufferers?

At your age you haven't lived through many 'problems' this world has faced. First, you will notice that anything that can destroy the earth is caused by the US. This isn't true, but people who tell you these things will try to make you think so. This is all a big money thing. A scam!

When I was your age the US was running out of gas. Service stations couldn't get it. Prices went up. Which in my day means as much as 75 cents a gallon. Once this happened, we had more gas than we knew what to do with. In your life, you are going to hear many things that are destroying the earth. You will also hear that it is the fault of the US. The people who lay this blame on us, is usually one of us.

Look for Mother natures life cycles. Like the cycle of water. This world is not as vulnerable as u think. There is the plants that recycle our air. That is why CO2 is not bad as u all think but it is natures step for the air recycle. That cycle is the first step in fossil fuel recycling. Think of the earth as a space ship billions of miles from home and all of the earth's systems are working fine. Look again at CO2 .... there are 2 O atoms for 1 C atom . So it the CO2 is such a bad thing where is the O2.
