The world is taking the threat of Global Warming very seriously, however the big problem is making the decision what do you do about it and how do you develop the political support among all of the countries for your decision.

To prevent Global Warming due to human activity will require that we shut down all of the economies of the world, including the Peoples Republic of China and India.

If we did shut down the economies of the world we would have mass starvation and misery on a scale that we have not seen in modern history.

The people who tell you that you can solve the problem by turning out the lights in a room when you leave it and buying a hybrid car do not understand the problem.

The proposed solutions, even the Kyoto protocol are so minor they are nothing more than good public relations efforts so that people can feel good about themselves because they are doing something without making any painful sacrifices,

These proposed solutions are so small they will be completely ineffective at solving the problem.

We need to accept the fact that the world does not have the political will to make the cuts necessary to stop Global Warming.

We need to start planning now to determine how we will respond to the inevitable results of Global Warming.

One of the things that we must do is help people who live in low lying areas that will be flooded when sea levels rise. We will need to help them find new homes in locations that are not susceptible to floodiing, or build dikes similar to those in Holland to keep the sea out.

No the majority of the world is not taking global warming seriously..Those who are taking it seriously are making a change like building wind farms to provide electricity to homes. There are many facts that prove how global warming is effecting the world, yet few believe it due to the fact that not to many people are willing to listen to the truth. I strongly suggest watching An Inconvient Truth most people will not watch the movie because they do not like Al Gore. Aside from the fact that Al is the one giving the information it is the raw facts about what is and will happen to the earth if we do not start by looking for alterative ways to supply energy to the world. I also would strongly suggest looking for articles about global warming and sites about wind farms they will give you an idea on how the people feel about global warming.

Most informed people realize that there is a huge difference between evidence for a slight rise in average temperatures over the past 150 years and the complete lack of evidence that this rise is either abnormal or caused by human activity.

Many of the global warming alarmists accept the idea of human causality because of a politically based belief system despite the lack of scientific evidence.

Those who look at all the data and the causative theories that they support realize that humans probably have at most a minor role in global warming. There's equally strong evidence that the current trend is neither unusual nor excessive and that human activity may have no role in it.

Therefore, if there is ever something to "take seriously' people probably will. As long as it exists only in the overheated imaginations (pun intended) of opportunistic politicians and their lap-dogs in the press, those of us with functioning brains will wait for some evidence to be found.

When you consider how long it usually takes for the world to respond to important issues, I think we're doing pretty well. It took centuries for most of the world to outlaw slavery. 60 years after the bombing of Japan, nuclear weapons are still legal. Cars have been killing thousands of people a year since their invention, but nobody has either banned them or found a way to stop the killing.

Global warming has only been known to scientists for less than 20 years, and consensus even in the scientific community has only developed in the last couple of years. Still, most of the world approved the Kyoto protocols 10 years ago, and governments around the world are taking steps to combat global warming.

We should and will do more. But for a planet with billions of people who speak thousands of different languages, I'd say we're making good progress.

More, and more, the world Nations and Scientists are
telling us that Global Warming is real, and we had better start to correct the problem,

I suggest you read "An Inconvenient Truth" written by Al Gore.
This will tell you all about Global Warming. The Film by the same name will help also.

In general the world is not taking it seriously enough. Governments have known for years there was a problem and have let it come to the point where there are so many natural disasters happening that it's realy out of control. The public is concerned, but the ones with the power to make the big changes are sitting on their hands.

Well, I think that the world has nothing to do with it because it is the one suffering from global warming. We people are very neglegent about the earth. It is the one that gives us so many things-air, water, land! Just name it and you have it! But what are we giving to the earth? nothing but pollution and dirt!
We are the cause of global warming! The government tries hard to discard the waste, the pollution properly, but we are the ones who have destroyed it! Ver soon people will understand that "ONLY AFTER THE LAST TREE HAS BEEN CUT DOWN, ONLY AFTER THE LAST WATER BODY HAS BEEN POLLUTED, WILL MAN REALIST THAT MONEY CANNOT PROVIDE SURVIVAL!" Thank You! Best of luck for your competition!

Third-World countries such as China (the world's most populous country) and India, along with many other third-world nations are not taking this seriously and are so poor they are more interested in economic survival than environmental concerns.

The fact is, we have too many people on this planet and that is the real problem. The only viable means at the present time to make more electricity is to build more Nuclear Reactors.

These things have been predicted by profits for hundreds of years and now you act like its sudden or serious. Not many people took head to the words of the profits and now we live in a huge mess. We have allot of work to do but anyone who refuses to learn magic and wake up will be left in the dust. Most likely atomic dust. We live in a world where there are armies of evil bent on destroying the planet. But your probably to numb to believe that.

you are FOR the motion of we are not taking it seriously? Sorry just a bit confused by the statement... but here is your answer

No, we are not taking it seriously, for several reasons.. but here is the proof.

John Travolta... VERY outspoken on global warming.. owns and operates a number of personal jets... to include the normal jets to Jet liners.. you know the type that you fly on in super saver coach. He actualy has them pulled up to his HOME!!! ... so how can it be taken serioulsy when one of its major speakers shows how little interest he personaly takes in it.
