Good news is that there will be a lot of new arable land opened up, assuming the visions are really true. Land that has not been over farmed and over fertilized and loaded with herbicides and pesticides and who-knows-whaticides.
It will allow us, if we wish, to ease some of the urban congestion, opening up areas for new, smaller, and better designed urban areas.
It will open up new mineral deposits and also new scenic areas that now are virtually unreachable.
I have not seen anyone figuring it, but most plants grow better with more warmth and CO2, so we ought to have better crops in the new land, and more of them. And possibly more tropical stuff we cannot grow well now, a better variety in the diet for lower cost. Yummy longan and lychee fruits!
The new shallow sea areas should improve fisheries and could be used to grow marine plants...many seaweeds are tasty and highly nutritious. We yelp for kelp!!
IF this is handled sensibly, and without screams and outcries, if it indeed happens, it could be a real boon to mankind.
But it takes careful modeling, avoiding statistical perversions of data, studies of previous warming times, and cooling times, and ignoring misleading graphs that are rounded off when it makes it look worse, and left spiky when that shows more danger. And a positive attitude towards change by the political leadership!
I do find it interesting that a lot of the graphs out there are "smoothed" at a rate that supresses the variations from sunspot cycles. And also show only selected portions of a longer sequence would be inconvenient to show in its entirety, since it does not support the desired conclusion.
As it has been succinctly put: figures don't lie, but liars figure!
Good question, ought to make people think. In winters, where I live, sometimes I long for at least local warming!! Although at 20 below, 2 degrees warmer isn't much!
We could, if people are not browbeaten and cowed and frightened and coerced into submission, have a new pioneer spirit and claim the new lands and opportunities, including making totally new city designs to avoid the problems of the old. I'd like to see that!!

The following analogy is good (seriously).
The people on the Titanic had a nice voyage on a fancy ship for a few days.
Yes, a few places will see local benefits. But even those places will lose, overall, as a result of the worldwide economic problems caused by global warming. More here:

Yes, the media tends to be all gloom and doom even if there are positive aspects to global warming. The reason is that people love a disaster headline. If there is a good news story, people tend to turn the page or change the channel.
There probably are some positive aspects to global warming, like all those people who live in cold climates, might not mind if global temperatures increased by 2 degrees. Also an increase in CO2 in the atmosphere and a slight increase in temperature will increase plant growth rates leading to a greener earth.
People generally don't find good news interesting, but we love disaster stories.

The focus does seem to be very much on the negative aspects but there are some positive ones as well...
> Instances of cold related deaths have fallen and will continue to fall
> Similarly, instances of cold related conditions have fallen
> Increased crop yield for certain types of crops and extended growing seasons
> Warmer temps in the temporate regions provide a more comfortable environment for people to live in
> Heating bills in temporate climes will reduce
> As permafrost melts agricultural land will become available and already one million square kilometres of permafrost has melted in Siberia
> Some plant and animal species fair better in warmer conditions
> Rising sea levels mean that those of us who live inland won't have as far to go to visit the coast in future (j/k)
Worth keeping in prespective - for each of these positives there's a corresponding nagative. Whilst cold related deaths are falling, heat related deaths are rising; whilst some frozen land is now suitable for agriculture there is existing agricultural land lost to desertification etc.

If you like sailing, it's great. Another area of water the size of the Atlantic will be added to the world ocean by drowned land.
You can get in tan in seconds and never have to work if you stay in the sun for more than an hour a day and develop a nice carcinoma. So in general, why all the beef?

Exactly! See, it isn't all bad news. People will say we're having the worst weather ever. It's all lies. We've been having bad storms and so on for years and ours aren't any worse. And, as anyone who studies it with an open mind will tell you, the earth has cycles. Long cycles. 200 year or more cycles. So don't worry about it, my friend. Go take a jet to the beach and enjoy the warm summer sun!

It depends on where you live but either was something that you like or love will change in some way. Look here for the difference in temperatures for Australia alone.. it will mean less rain and more drought.

Actually, global warming should make winter warmer. The temperature increase in winter is even larger than in the summer, and larger temperature increase is expected in countries closer to the poles. So, though it's overall bad, it does make winter more comfortable ;)

It is good news check the data. CO2 is just the part of mother natures air recycle plan. CO2 is not a pollutant.
