gas mileage requirements that must by met by automakers are rated by average mileage of all cars that they make... so when you buy a smaller car, you are allowing them to make more big gas guzzlers. wonder if anyone has thought about suing them for taking advantage of you?

i dont know what grounds, maybe fraud if you bought the car with intentions to be enviornmentally friendly. you can sue someone for just about anything, im sure you could find grounds if you thought about it long enough

Why do I care? I bought my Compass for one reason: to save money. If someone wants to throw away their money on a 12 mpg monstrosity that will probably roll over and kill them anyway, then that's their problem.

No. Just start a campaign that everyone buys a car/truck/SUV that gets good mileage. Sure, an SUV won't get the same mileage as a prius, but maybe they NEED an SUV because they have a lot of kids or something. But you can get an suv that gets 20ish miles to the gallon, or 8mpg. That is your choice!
And if enough people did that, then automakers wouldn't make cars that nobody bought, so less automakers would even make a gas guzzler.

I'd like to sue them for putting giant, unsafe cars on the road, and have the government be co-defendant, since they allow people to drive those dangerously large vehicles without passing a special test, or getting a special permit. You need special licenses for motorcycles, buses, certain kinds of big trucks. But SUV's cause accidents all the time just because people don't know how to handle them, and us folks in little cars, made by the same companies that make the SUV's, get squashed.
So I think someone who got squashed by an SUV, who was driving a little car that couldn't stand up to the big one, could sue for the company putting out unsafe vehicle combinations (huge and heavy, as well as little and crushable).
Seems reasonable to make them culpable for producing products that are designed to be on the road at the same time, but that putting them on the road at the same time leaves the owners of the small cars at risk.

Here the government has a rebate for buying cars that meet a specified m.p.g. standard and it is paid for by a gas guzzler tax on larger vehicles.
Even without that incentive, you are still paying a lot less than a big SUV to travel the same distance so why complain about it?

NO .
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IS THOSE WITH THE SUVs, SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY DOUBLE THE RATE AT THE PUMP ; IE IF GAS IS $ 2.73 PER GALLON, THE SUVs OWNER HAS TO PAY $ 4.50 OR MORE. ALSO , IT WOULD VERY DIFFICULT , BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP TRACK AS TO HAW MANY CARS / VAN A HOUSE HOLD HAS ; BUSINESS THAT GIVE FREE GAS AS INCENTIVES COULD CONTINUE TO DO SO , BUT HAVE TO GIVE THE SAME AMOUNT AS TAX ; IE , IF " XYZ " GIVES A $ 50 TO A COSTUMER / GUEST FOR USING OR STAYING WITH THEM , THAT COMPANY / BUSINESS PAYS AN ADDITIONAL TAX OF $ 50.00 .
REGARDING A HOUSE HOLD HAVING MORE CARS, ONE WAY TO TAX THEM IS TO INCREASE THE PRICE ON EACH ADDITIONAL CAR/SUVs , PLUS ADDITIONAL COST ON THEIR MONTHLY PAYMENTS. THIS COULD BE TRACKED BY AN ADDITIONAL STICKER ON THEIR VEHICLE. KEEPING AN EYE ON THE NUMBER OF PARKING PLACE OR SIZE OF THEIR GARAGE WOULD ALSO HELP.
THE GOVERNMENT HAS TO IMPROVE , INTRODUCE AND PROMOTE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN A BIG WAY WHICH HAS TO BE MADE MUCH MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY .

Underwhat grounds? Manipulation of Statistical Analysis?
You can't sue them simply to sue, they have to wrong you in some way or form that causes you some 'damage'.
I have a better idea... claim to be a representative of the polar bears and sue the automotive companies for destruction of habitat.

owning a car is a matter of choice -we don't have to own one. therefore, there is no need to sue based on our choice. unless, we sue ourselves for our poor decisions.
