I was finally forced this morning by my loving wife to clean out some of the ‘old junk’ from the garage and take it down to the local council dump on pain of no Sunday roast until it’s done :). To get in to the dump I had to wait in a queue of cars about a mile long coming from both directions, all with there engines running, pumping out tons of pollution by the minute.

What surprised me more than anything was that about 85% of the people in this queue fell into to categories. The first was the people who could not store there household general rubbish and food waste in this heat for two weeks until the council collected it. The second was people whose cars were full of grass, plant and tree clippings after doing their gardens.

Now, I ask you? Is this helping to lower anyone’s carbon footprint? Is this really better for the environment or is actually MORE damaging to the environment as I suspect it is?

If our government would offer a tax deduction for the planting of fruit trees we could realize very quickly some great benefits:
1. Trees produce oxygen and reduce C02.
2.. The produce could be issued by the government to welfare families thereby reducing the amount each family would need to be paid. This would result in lessening the burden on tax payers.
3. The excess could bring in revenue via export.
Note: Israel set up a national fund for donations for planting fruit trees---the result was the planting of 200 million trees, and export revenues in excess of 500 million dollars.
This would be cost effective, environmentally beneficial and increase revenue. And very easy to implement. The workers could be paid by means of anticipated revenues from exports. What do you think?

This is something I think is overlooked in the 'global warming' argument and I think it has a BIG, HUGE factor in the earth being hotter. The earth is hotter, right now....but as all things, it'll pass. The sun is hot. When the sun breaths, and it doesn't breath like we do, think expanding and contrasting over a big span of years, the earth is effected. It gets hotter. And when it contrast again it'll get colder and people will be preaching about another ice age. (P.S. no matter what I say I'm always gonna be wrong, huh?)

I have been using the Freecycle website for a while now (where people offer stuff that they no longer need/want for free collection to those who can use them) - I think it's an excellent idea because it keeps usable items like furniture and electrical equipment out of landfill.

However - someone I know told me the other day she would never take second hand furniture etc from a site like that because a) she would never feel it was "her own" unless she bought it from a shop and b) people who use these sites are just freeloaders who can't be bothered to work to buy their own stuff!

I'm disgusted by this - not only is she suggesting that its better to clog up landfill sites with things that could still be used, she's suggesting that everyone should be able to afford new stuff!

What do other people think?

What kind of notebooks or excercise books do u use ??
R they eco - buddy or just ordinary.

All eco-buddy books use paper made 4rm *bagasse*, not trees. Bagasse comes 4rm *sugarcane*. After the cane has been crushed 2 make sugar, the leftover pulp is turned into paper & a eco-buddy book uses this paper. Think about it,everytime u buy an eco-buddy book which uses bagasse
made paper,u make our planet a little greener. N everytime you save a tree, u save a part of the planet Earth.
It's up 2 us now.
Lets go ahead & create a revolution. :-)

To be honest i came 2 know about these eco-buddy books
only recently & like many others i too had been using ordinary
note-books thus indirectly killing a tree. But now that i have come 2 know about this i am going 2 use eco-buddy note books henceforth.

I shared this important piece of imformation with u
all 2 create an awareness towards deforestation.
Source- eco-buddy notebooks.
~*Save trees*~
Thanx 4 responding.

Of course there are many exceptions.... but.... in general, there are two types of people. Those on the left and those on the right. Those on the left believe humans were created out of natural selection, and that the planet is getting warmer, threatening life. On the right, they believe God created life and the planet is not getting warmer.
So why is it that those who believe in "survival of the fittest" are so concerned about creatures who won't survive due to an increase in heat? Isn't that a contradiction? Forget what the cause of it is, just the reaction.

I just watched this show on Animal Planet about koalas. Some of it was about a conservation group in Brisbane called the AKF. The show made it sound like these people are fighting an up-hill battle with just about everybody in Australia. I don't know how old that show is, or whether that is just the opinion of the Canadian television producers, so I'm hoping every one here from Australia would like to comment. Do you and most people you know care about the survival of koalas? Do you vote for conservation projects and politicians who support conservation (in general)? Thanx.

I was wondering if a regular car could run on hydrogen, I found out it is very easy to turn water into hydrogen, a 15 year boy did it as a science experiment with a nine volt battery and salt water.
I was thinking of using the 12 volt car battery maybe and filling the tank with saltwater run the electrodes into it and badaboom there we go Hydrogen fuel!

behind my house there is a small wood gully (giant ditch) with lots of trees and a small creek. at night recently i've begun to hear a loud barking like noise. it sounds like its coming from two different places. its similar to a dog bark, but sounds more like a human trying to bark. it sounds similar to a dog or some sort of animal in pain, but its been going on for about 4 or 5 days. does anyone know what it might be or how to determine what it is?

or does anyone know of any good sites online with sound bites the could help me possibly identify this sound? it is becoming very irritating!
