Here's my daily dilemna... When washing my hands in the loo... What's the least environmentally damaging way of drying off my hands ? Blow dry them (made from unrenewable resource, but creates no waste).. or paper towel them off ? (renewable resource but involve energy in manufacture and creates waste)...

thx !

Our village is wanting to build a boat ramp along the Ohio River. The Historical Socity has brought in people from Columbus to DIG. So far they have found what they THINK is an old Indian Oven and some animal bones. Also, they have found some old tin cans and bottels. I have no idea how much it is costing the tax payers for this silly DIG, but why is it that every time someone wants to build something, the History buffs get involved. Most of what the find is junk and we are paying for stupid sillyness. Do they really think they are going to find GRANTS TOMB, maybe a space ship from yesteryear or what???

News.com.au Flash player interactives include one that states that CO2 and methane contribute 80% of the greenhouse effect. Any child can access an encyclopedia online that says that water contributes up to 86%. 36% as gas and the rest as cloud. Makes a big difference in modeling.
Another Flashplayer interactive by the same authors states that it has been proven that ALL global warming is caused by increases in CO2 levels. Probably and Significant contibution perhaps but proven and ALL. How could such a thing be proven? ALL requires that ANY form of natural effect must be discounted. Again just not possible.
So why would someone go to the trouble of producing such presentations and why would any sentient journalist publish them online where kids and their teacher may access them?
Remember the Great Wall of China and the rabbits adverts? Is it possible that this stuff is a joke? I doubt it somehow.
Sentient and Journalist, only an oxymoron in Australia? Aussie jokes anyone?

I'm not sure of the pay-back period of solar panels. I think it takes (say) 20 years, but isn't there a vast area of un-used land in the centre of Australia which could be better utilised. It has guaranteed sunshine and surely would be even more effective than wind/water turbines?

Have you seen any effects of global warming in your home country, in your own backyard?

For example, lack of rainfall or shorter winters?

It would help if you could tell me which country you're from, and which part of that country. Thanks!

I don't why there are so many people that still try to debate global warming. The debate is over, it is real and it's time to start figuring out what we're going to do about it then do it.

My grandparents used to say that it was going to rain when they saw tree leaves drooping downwards, however recently another person said it was going to rain when the leaves start to turn upwards. Which is true and what one is a myth, or are they both right/wrong?

NASA ADMINISTRATOR MICHAEL GRIFFIN NOT SURE THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS A PROBLEM
So much for consensus

May 30, 2007; Washington, DC – NASA Administrator

Michael Griffin tells NPR News that while he has no doubt “a trend of global warming exists, I am not sure that it is fair to say that it is a problem we must wrestle with.” In an interview with Steve Inskeep airing tomorrow on NPR News’ Morning Edition, Administrator Griffin says “I guess I would ask which human beings - where and when - are to be accorded the privilege of deciding that this particular climate that we have right here today, right now is the best climate for all other human beings. I think that’s a rather arrogant position for people to take.”

Doesn't look like the one's in NASA agree with each other..

Next to our small community we are on 1-2 acre lots. It was cut years ago(10-20). Next to our area (on a hill), there is 37 acres of beautiful forest land that has deer and eagles, tons of birds, and a lot of (old Douglas fir/other)trees. Well the school district owned it, then they sold it to a realator, and now they are selling it, calling it "prime marketable timber". I know someone will buy it, and clear it.
THIS IS ON CAMANO ISLAND by the way, where forests like this one are getting really rare to find. I really appreciate your answer!!!!! I wish there could be no more cutting of forests, and if there is, very limited.

Fireworks are an American tradition and pass time enjoyed by the masses. Beautiful and sometimes breathtaking, annual celebratory firework displays of our nation's independence may be more damaging than some know or are willing to admit.
While I am clueless as to the actual content in the smoke remaining after the show, I am well aware of the smoke itself.
Our smaller town of 40,000 puts on a good show, but I imagine larger cities out do us by far. So... with thousands of cities participating, what are we doing to air quality? We are not the only species dependent on the breath of life and without it, there is not much independence to celebrate.
Another concern I have is the money spent to produce the shows. Shouldn't we use that for something more meaningful and longer lasting?
Are there any grassroots movements toward banning such shows?
