Maybe the nonbelief of it has become sort of like a fundamental cult religion.
It's amazing how the global warming nonbelievers in this forum are like the underdog atheists in the religion and spirituality forum.

Because the climate of the earth has changed many times over it's lifetime.
Because there is always some sort of panic going around. Remeber Y2K? Remember in 60s, it was global COOLING? Remember the 50s when everyone would duck and cover to keep from getting nuked?
Because even if the earth is coming to an end, the small efforts we make are only a drop in the bucket. If we wanted to help the environment, we would stop supporting the companies that do most of the pollution. Know what some of these companies are? Here's a clue...most of them can be found in your refrigerator and pantry.
Because there is not enough evidence to determine whether climate changes are caused entirely by humans or if there is anything we can do to reverse it.
Becuase there are far more important issues to worry about. People are starving and dying of AIDS in Africa, many countries are subjected to genocide at the hands of their leaders, communism still remains in the world, cruel dictators still remain in the world, we are fighting a WAR in Iraq with our men and women dying every day, terrorists and extremists are more determined than ever to take down our country.
You can sit on your little global warming high horse as you recycle your cans and drive your hybrid car to work, but not everyone in this world has the luxury of driving themselves crazy over something that may or may not be happening. If you want to help a cause, send some money over to Africa.
So yes, in the great scheme of things, I suppose I don't give a "s**t" about global warming right now.

I think it's more denial than fear or not giving a ****. Basically they don't want to believe it, so they look for some evidence that humans aren't the primary cause of global warming or that GW isn't really a problem, or anything that will let them remain in denial. This causes them to come up with some really stupid arguments, like that soda pop is responsible for global warming.

So then those of us who are familiar with the scientific research and know the facts debunk their stupid argument, but then the next day they've got a new one. Then we debunk that one, and so on and so forth. Basically it all boils down to the fact that they simply don't want to believe that GW is primarily caused by humans, because as the film title says, it's an inconvenient truth.

Its not fear, or that we do not care, it is because it is an outright lie, lead by fools and charlatans who hope to scare the American public into destroying our ecomny. I base this on the following facts that any 5th grader can easily check out if they really want to know the truth, instead of being lead by the nose like a complete fool.
1. The alarmist claim that burning fossil fuels is the cause of recent warming, however most of the warming took place before most of the increase of CO2. There was actually a significant cooling period from the mid-1940s to the late 1970s, while CO2 was increasing rapidly, and there was another increase from 1979 to 1998. In fact there has been no warming since 1998 – an eight-year period, and even a slight statistically cooling, despite the fact that CO2 has continued to rise.
2. The correlation between co2 emissions effecting global warming is extremely small compared to the correlation between global temperature and sun cycles. The sun cycles affect temperature in two ways first by the cycling up and down of actual heat energy that is emitted by the sun. This has a small effect on global temperature. The more important one is cycling in solar winds. Solar wind blocks cosmic radiation from coming into the Earth’s atmosphere. The more cosmic rays come in the more low level clouds there are and low-level clouds reflect solar heat energy back into space. If there are more clouds the earth is cooler and if there are fewer clouds, the earth is warmer. As solar wind cycles up cosmic rays cycle up and down in reverse and clouds up and down. So the solar window is very important to earth’s temperature, but you will not change.

Opinion: I think lots of people basically have faith in "the powers that be". To say now that global warming was caused by, say fossil fuels, cuts deep because it shows the lack of foresight in some policy decisions. Deep down, it's like a form of denial, and even with a clear diagnosis and cure some people won't take the medicine.

neither,
some of us have actually read the IPCC report on global warming. hell, some of us don't even take the IPCC report as the word of God.
furthermore, some of us reserved judgment until we considered the evidence and facts for ourselves. we looked at the science behind BOTH arguments and then made up our minds.
lastly, even fewer of us, have memories and can remember far back enough to recall all the fear mongering about the upcoming ice age in the late seventies into the early eighties.
seems quite simple really. then again, nothing is easy for a zealot.

There are so many people that do not accept scientific conclusions because they believe that everything these days is debatable. They are hard-headed people that do not like to change, or are very comfortable in their current situation that they do not like to think. If every major credible scientist in the world is saying there is a man-made problem, most rational people will pay attention.

Why so many naive, gullible idiots? That is the question.
It is not fear and we do give a sh1t but we do not like to just go with the rest of the herd just because Al Gore says so.
Scientists are human, they make mistakes and it is often that there is an agenda behind these big movements. Many of the assertions of the global warming scaremongers have already been proven wrong, so why should we take anything they say at face value?

Put your money where your mouth is - the IPCC wants to tax you $2.6 trillion dollars per year. Is that how much you believe?
Your simplistic observation of the motives of AGW skeptics illustrates, quite well, the level of critical thinking skills you undoubtedly used to arrive at "your own" conclusions concerning global warming.

It is generally hysteria that results in a belief in human caused global warming and ignorance IMO. Global warming is a cause celeb that relies on guilt mongers spreading fear. Their claims get worse every day and the Kool Aid drinking alarmist soak it all up and try to spread that guilt and fear. Some of us are just not as gullible as others.
