Pretend you feel confident, people won't know the difference. And soon you will feel more confident. Also, watch people you admire. What are they doing? How much do they say? What kind of questions do they ask? How many sentences do they use to answer a question? And so on. Don't ramble on and on, unless you are the lecturer, and even then, rambling should be replaced with more efficient communication. Remember people want to talk more than they want to listen. And people love a good listener!
Then practice. Taking a class is a good place to get some practice.
Live well, love deep and do good.

I was shy as a child, no one who knows me now would ever guess that though. I remember forcing myself to be friendly and polite. I remember that it felt almost crippling to go out of my way to speak to someone I didn't really know.
You have to swallow your fear and go for it. Force yourself to be friendly. Speak to people as you would want to be spoken to. As you continue to do it on a daily basis, your shyness will be a thing of the past in no time.

You need to practise speech making in front of a mirror, for some time: then, in front of good friends, who should encourageyou, correct you when necessary and give you confidence! Practice will ensure that you get rid of your shyness!
