Recently, I planted some Petunias in our garden. I also planted Irish Moss. Last month, I went through the streets and picked up trash scattered on the roads and on the sides of the roads. I am soon going to plant some more flowers. I have been spending much time outside lately. Thanks for answering and keep on thinking green!

P.S. Best gets best answer obviously!!

· 1bn likely to be displaced by 2050, says report
· Environmental factors will exacerbate existing crisis

John Vidal, environment editor
Monday May 14, 2007
The Guardian

"A billion people - one in seven people on Earth today - could be forced to leave their homes over the next 50 years as the effects of climate change worsen an already serious migration crisis, a new report from Christian Aid predicts.
The report, which is based on latest UN population and climate change figures, says conflict, large-scale development projects and widespread environmental deterioration will combine to make life unsupportable for hundreds of millions of people, mostly in the Sahara belt, south Asia and the Middle East."

Whoa! What do you think about that? How's that for the effects of global warming? ( 0 _ o ) Scary!

I just read in Electro-Generator Weekly that a British company is experimenting with a new form of renewable energy. What they have is huge circular tanks – like donuts – containing thousands of electric eels. The eels can only swim in one direction. Around the tanks are massive coils of copper wire. The EMF from the eels induces current to flow and thus generates power. One tank can generator enough for 5000 households.
I know we need to have renewable energy but don’t you think this is a cruel to the eels?

Coal, oil, nuclear, building these things when we have the alternatives is just crazy, especially considering how damaged our climate is already with the level of CO2 emissions, oil spills, mining pollution, contaminated water and soil, and the radiation from chernoybl and three mile island and who knows what little leaks people don't even know about from unsafe nuclear waste storage. And yet there all either being built or plans have been made to build many more of them. If we got these options for future power production off the table it would explode the green clean energy economy and would get those companies that are planning on building these incredibly foolish and destructive power plants to build green ones instead. Anyone else feel the same way? How could the internet be used to successfully stop these foolhardy dirty power plants from being built? Have people started already and I just don't have the right links? If you know any your more then invited to post them!

Gas prices are going up, but so are electric rates in the Chicago area. Is there actually a cost savings in driving a hybrid? Clearly there is an environmental saving, but the vehicle cost is higher. If the fuel source costs less, we might consider buying one.

I know that some people believe that Al Gore is not totally accurate about the effects of global warming, but take a look at this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070515/sc_livescience/californiasizedareaoficemeltsinantarctica

Do you think this is a cause for alarm, when you consider the impact on global warming and the resulting problems with rising sea-water levels?
