It is making the winters in Chicago much nicer. I'm sorry it is destroying the planet, but it is really helping to keep away the sub-zero temps in my neck of the woods.

the downside of global warming is that with all the glaciers and polar ice caps melting the water levels are getting higher. You might not have beachfront property now, but you might in a decade or so. With all the water in the atmosphere, some geologists and climatologists believe that it could actually decrease the amount of sun that penetrates the atmosphere and bring on the next major cooling spell and next major ice age. Then as ice begins to re-form, it could deflect even more heat and cool the earth even further. Marginal populations displaced by newly formed glaciers would migrate to areas more central to the equator and competition for ever decreasing resources would be more intense.

I'm going to be the first person to answer this seriously. Global warming has no positives. Global warming has devastated the country I live in (Australia). People have lost their livelihood through unpredictable weather. Some places here haven't seen a drop of rain for 5 years. Due to weather patterns some countries have been hit harder than others. It will cause an increase in catastrophic weather conditions: hurricanes, tornadoes, floods. Rising sea levels will displace some cities. New York will soon have to move if things don't change. Plant and animal species die, diseases such as malaria spread quicker. People die basically.
Economically it is devastating. Governments spend money trying to fix this and other areas suffer: education, health etc. Although you see no downside now, it could all change very quickly.
Some of these answers really get me angry- typical ignorant american answer: only concerned about how it will affect your country. It is a GLOBAL issue not a domestic problem. The U.S is the number 1 cause of this problem and they should be doing more to stop it. Wake up, listen to Gore

When you live in my head, anything over 70 degrees F causes dizziness, ringing in the ears, dimming/no vision, shortness of breath, and general difficulty standing thanks to equilibrium disruption...it's called fainting. And not only do I not like the feeling, but it makes it very difficult for me to get anything done. I'd rather deal with freezing temps than hot temps. At least I can escape the cold, it's called layers. There's only so much I can take off in the heat.
You like global warming? Fine. You obviously don't have my problem. Be happy to give it to you, then we'll see how you stand on the issue.

No. The average temprature of the earth for most of it's history has been almost 10 degrees celcius higher than today. When tempratures reach that point you will have Texas or even Mexico winters in Chicago and the giant vegatables produced in southern Alaska will be produced in millions of acres in Canada, Greenland and Siberia.

Global warming will affect your cost of life, will make some services and products to dissapear, will eventually make you, your children or your grandchildren to migrate in order to be in aplace with a better quality of life (food, watter supplies), and will affect the weather of the place you live. At first you will find it comfortable (the weather), even good, but in the end it will change to something not that pleasurable.
Oh and I forgot, it will also affect your concience, because when you sit to see the news, with a nice hot plate in front of you, you will be able to see all those millions of people in poor countries (including babies) that are already affected by global warming and that not have the priviledges you have...and are dying because of that.
So see...at the end...it affects you...and EVERYBODY!

The downside is that the temperatures will become more and more severe. Severe hurricanes like Katrina will happen more often.
While warm weather all the time might sound nice now, it will not be so nice when the entire atmosphere changes. Global warming is not just about a gentle temperature change, it is about severe climate change that could destroy life on Earth.
Take care,
Troy

Global warming = loss of life (plant, animal and human) on an epic scale. Without our greedy contribution to the loss of plant and animal life.... global warming will take care of the rest. We will become drastically thinned in the long run from global warming.
It might get much warmer, dryer and more miserable than you think. Oh it is nice right now, until you run out of glacial water....(rivers, streams and aquifers).

You need to look up online and read about the effects on weather, rainfall, drought, agricultural disruption, food prices, sea level rise, the Atlantic ocean conveyor, tornados, hurricanes, cyclones, wildfires, heatwaves, coral bleaching, the sixth extinction, Australia's ongoing worst drought ever, beach erosion, ocean salinity changes, infectious disease ranges, pest species range changes and global famine dude, after you've read all the different possible scenarios and you still think it's great if some or all of them happen in whatever degree and you still think it's great then I don't know what to tell you.

Try the increasing number of natural disasters and weather problems everywhere in the world. You may not like winter, nor do you have any beachfront property but your food supply is affected, the price of goods as well as over-all living conditions and natural resources are being affected and you are affected, too, in the long run.
Once the balance of nature is disrupted, the rest of the world feels it. If you're a young person, think in terms of YEARS . . . when you'll be in the older generation group and imagine trying to fend for yourself in those times and with you not in the prime of health.

Well, when you start to have breathing problems because the air quality is terrible or acid rain burns your skin instead of cooling you off on a hot day, then maybe you'll figure out the downside of global warming and why it pertains to you.
