Not really. Beef isn't addictive.

But there is this pervasive myth that we need oodles of protein. Then the even more pervasive myth that red meat is the best source of protein. Which it isn't.

Add to that, animal protein, meat as well as dairy, has been shown to cause osteoporosis.

It's a long slow process of changing people's minds.

It's not the cattle, per se, that are killing the planet. It's factory farms. Where hundreds upon thousands of cattle are crammed together in an area far too small for them.

You can consume locally raised organic meats without doing much damage to the planet. However you are still doing damage to yourself.

For the sadly ignorant people who said you can't save the planet by giving up beef - look at the simple statistics. It takes 22 pounds of grain, enough to feed a village, for every pound of edible beef. 5000 gallons of water.

Read the news people! Ecologists around the world are saying cows are the number one cause of global warming.

Factory farms have become so mechanized it is acceptable that 10% of the cows should die needlessly before they reach "food age." While 10% doesn't seem like much we slaughter twice the worlds population (in animals) each year. 10% of 12 billion animals is one million. That means the food, water and man power used to foster those 1 million animals is wasted.

I don't see how eating beef harms the environment. I'm not gonna stop. But, the other day I heard that the amount of energy and food and stuff needed to raise a cow could feed hundreds of people! (As in instead of growing special corn for the cows, grow corn for us. etc.) I'm still gunna eat beef though. Just thought I'd educate.

I think that if you just skip eating beef once a week, it would be good for you and the environment.

Do you know how stupid you sound? Hooked on beef like drugs?! And exactly how do you save the environment if there are MORE cows around that you won't eat?

This is yet another piece of evidence that the GREENS are totally whacked and militant.

It's because of the hormones injected into cows to produce more edible meat. It also ends up in your milk.

I have a theory that that's why so many more teenage girls have size C cup breasts at 12 (surgery free of course) and why I, a long time vegetarian and adult, am an A cup.

...was that an over-share?

you can get hooked on it but some things you have got to give up.if half the world gave up beef they would'nt cut down the rainforests for more room for beef.cuting down the rainforests also changes the world, like the temp. and more.

no, i don't think that eating beef is like a drug addiction. and i also don't see what difference it could make to the environment not to eat it.

I'm hooked. I don't see how not eating it can save the environment.
