I used to think it was driving for sure, but I recently read that taking a long distance flight gives off 500 pounds of CO2 for each person on the plane!

I feel guilty throwing it in the garbage because the majority of it is made of paper that could be recycled. However the cover is plastic and its spiral bound so I don't know if I should recycle it.

We're too cloudy for solar, no-one seems to want a wind turbine in their back yard, the nuclear option is still doubtful. So what's the common sense solution?

If we have to rely on Russia or the Middle East for gas imports, then will we become held to political ransom as Ukraine was during the Orange Revolution not so long ago?

A huge wood-fuelled operation could provide some of our energy demands, coupled with renewable sources could also make us carbon-neutral, but this would take up a lot of land.

If so what is it, if not do you have any ideas?

(I could be wrong but I was under the impression that not all toilet paper was made from Recycled paper)

Why am I asking this, I use too much toilet paper. Recycled no dye toilet paper is either too expensive or if it’s cheap it’s way too hard like sand paper I swear. I don’t like the “folding” method b/c I think it’s gross and I like to be very clean and dry (so no I do not like those wet wipes, they feel nasty until you wipe yourself dry again LOL).

The dilemma is I really do use too much Toilet Paper, and I feel I am the mother of destruction of all trees at the rate I use toilet paper and nose tissue combined LOL, so I’m wondering about my alternatives.

;-)
Currently I am using Scot Extra Soft 600 sheets per roll.
Sometimes I use their cheap 1000 sheets since it lasts me longer then any other LOL (and doesn't feel like sand paper either to me).

Obviously we produce a lot from corn but has anyone in the US, other than researchers, produced ethanol from switch grass?

With decreasing oil reserves, alternative energy sources have to be found, while fusion power, if attainable is very promising, it is far from reality (perhaps 20 years if the ITER project is successful). Biodiesel is exciting too. but it would be impossible to grow so many plants to cater to the needs of millions of cars. Besides, we could probably do a better job than plants at capturing solar energy.

If global warming is true why doesn't doesn't Al Gore and the other global warming people stop driving cars? Why don't they ride bikes or walk if they can't practice what they preach then don't talk about global warming to me. Stop driving your fancy cars and flying in your private jets then I'll listen! Global Warming is a lie!

From mechanical engineering school I remember that energy cannot be created or destroyed and that heat is the lowest form of all energy. In turn, all forms of energy in use such as mechanical or electrical must ultimately be reduced to heat.
The Earth has lots of stored potential energy in the form of chemicals, coal, oil, natural gas, etc. that is dormant until man releases it. Doesn't all this dormant potential energy ultimately become heat that is released into the atmosphere? Radiation heat transfer must remove some of the heat but only in proportion to the Earth's temperature. Where is all this energy (heat) that all the thousands of power plants, oil burning engines, campfires, etc. going?

Lately I've noticed that flies come inside buildings because they can't stand heated temperatures. I believe ants have an anthill where they came from, and not in our house where they belong.

we have serious problem with this alien invader tree here in South Africa esp. mountain tributiries, its a serious threat to our local vegetation because it has no natural enemies here. What can one do to get rid of it? I'm only interested in poisons that would not be harmful to the environment/ecology.

A very green person, a lighting professional, suggests that CFL's are not, given the extra resources needed for constructing the plants to make them and for generating the extra materials in them. Beyond the energy balance asked in the question, are other environmental factors involved? I doubt, for example, that consumers will drive 10 miles to a hazardous waste disposal site to get rid of one bulb, or even put it in a separate bag ( under most current law and regulation regimes). In other words, what should a trying-to-be-green consumer do? Does it matter that I happen to be in the US? And need dimmable bulbs?
