A friend and I were discussing this last night, and the only album we could come up with that would fall into that category was GNR's 'Appetite for Destruction'.

I thought id ask this after a good response to the other question. So what do you think the most underrated rock song is? Honestly i think people dont pay enough credit to songs like Immigrant Son by Led Zeppelin or Bark at the Moon the station where i live dont play either of those all the play is stuff from Metallica's Black Album and Stairway to Heaven(not that i mind tho). So tell me what you think

The other decades all had better music than the trash that is around today. With few exceptions, like Tool and Smashing Pumpkins (which are left over from the previous era), there is no good stuff coming out. The 60s had groovy Hippie music (Grateful Dead, Simon and Garfunkel, The Doors). The 70s had good classic rock (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd), the 80s had great New Wave (The Cars, New Order, Human League), the 90s had Grunge (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains). Why does modern music suck so bad?

Back in the 50's, we had great guitarists like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. In the 60's, more guitar legends came to be, in particular George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix. In the 70's, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Angus Young, etc. dominated the scene. Then the 80's had a crap load of great heavy metal guitarists that no one really knows the names of.

Somewhere around the early 1990s, a new generation of music began. From the time of the grunge scene to now, who are/were the greatest modern guitarists?

Here's what I think:

Jack White of the White Stripes. Great guitarist overall. The way he uses guitar effects effectively really impresses me. Especially how he created that bass sound with his guitar in "Seven Nation Army". In general, the White Stripes are one of the better modern bands.

I like singers and bands who write their own music and play their own instruments, and put more emphasis on their sound than their look, and don't exploit themselves sexually. With the exception of KT Tunstall, there doesn't seem to be anyone with real musical talent out there.
