I like singers and bands who write their own music and play their own instruments, and put more emphasis on their sound than their look, and don't exploit themselves sexually. With the exception of KT Tunstall, there doesn't seem to be anyone with real musical talent out there.

Zachhhhh: Is "Hippie" a band, or are you calling me a hippie? If the latter, then you didn't answer my question.

Kat: ok, what are the songs and artists?

Deedee: I already listen to last.fm and similar programs and rarely listen to the radio; but I was just curious if there is anything decent out there.

I usually just listen to the local classic rock station. The DJ's are pretty entertaining and they play a Led Zeppelin tune every half hour. Though, when I read the bus home from school, the local top 40 station is always on and they play the same crappy songs everyday.

It's true that FM music these days is a real wasteland...
I'm forced to listen to classic rock since most (not all) of
the new bands sound generic and uninspired.

My guess is that the music industry is in a rut and
any day now (I hope ...;>) a band will come out of nowhere and give the airwaves a good kick in the **** to get things going again.

Well I'm pretty sure there is some musical talent out there (singing-wise); I simply do not like it.

There has gotta be some decent radio stations out there, but none where I live.

I prefer listening to albums rather than singles anyway.

Pandora radio (www.pandora.com) is a great online radio because you can pick songs you like and it finds similar songs that you give a thumbs up or thumbs down. There are also lots of indie radio stations that sound like the type of music you would like. Indie bands and music artists aren't playing their music for the money-they're doing it because they enjoy it.

The undiscovered talent from the 80's and 90's is better than most of the "new" stuff we hear today. As for rap and hip-hop, I get tired of identifying the original songs and melodies that get chopped up for the "new" songs that are released. They REALLY suck.

At least Three Days Grace and country star Pat Green are writing their own material.
