Anyways, SOAD is an alternative metal band...not really nu metal (they lack a ton of characteristics). Some good similar artists include:
Deftones
Tool
Faith No More (most under-rated and influential of the pack...maybe Tool is, but so are these guys)
Rage Against the Machine
KoRn (less nu metal as career went on)
Don't even try a genre question here...you could get answers ranging from metal to nu metal to progressive metal to experimental rock to alternative rock to acid rock to well...you get the point.

Best chance now is to listen to Serj Tankian. The lead singer who has gone solo. He is System of a Down. His album will be released this fall so, it's just around the corner.

try Lamb of God ... Ashes of the Wake album is kick-***. and then there's always SlipKnot, and Killswitch Engage. but i'd check out Lamb of God first .. but nothing is comprable to a band such as SOAD. they're unbelievable.

Apex Theory maybe, they're a bit old haven't had a cd out for years. I think the drummer for SOAD was their drummer for awhile.
