Like really good Bar music... Not 'slow' jazz, more like 'jivey' jazz... With just the piano... No drums, no stand up bass, or acoustics... Just Piano...

What are some songs or artists you would recomend that have a strong jazz guitar? I'm the pianist in a jazz band, and our new guitar player is at a loss for rhythmical things to do while comping behind the band.

Anyone know of any books in the library or Barnes & Noble that shows different ways to ad-lib bar by bar of songs? Even "Mary Had A Little Lamb" would be a start.

What happend to the arranging style of the Swing Era? What happened to the size of the band? Now the music emphasizes speed, technical fluidity, surprise, and almost entirely improvisation. Do you think dancers were happy with this new style?

I was wondering if there were any good Jazz bands? I'd like to hear some so just list a couple that are good. I like faster kinds of Jazz, but i've never liked the genre very much, but I hear songs all the time so I thought I'd start listenin to some.

Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, not the contemporary jazz, which I don't care for much, but older jazz (early-mid 20th century) such as the kind performed by Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck and Vince Guaraldi.

Thanks!
