I can't remember whether it also had ":Night time is the right time" by Ray Charles in thr same episode or not. I just remember him throwing old records on and dancing with Claire (Phylicia Rashad). This old jazz song may have also had the word night in the title. I believe it was early 60's, late 50's, and he made a big deal about it in the show. Anybody know what it is?

I have an audition this Sunday, and I will be tested on a bit of Jazz Theory for my seat. If anyone knows any good jazz theory sites, I'd be happy to check them out. Thanks!

jazz, like Miles started with Bebop then moved into Cool and Modal to Straight Ahead then to Fusion and ending with Hip Hop experimentation; and Dizzy went further from Bebop into Latin American music. What would Parker had done if he had lived?

So I was watching the movie Chicago for the past.. few days.. and I pretty much LOVE the music in it. It is jazz, but .. all the modern jazz I can find is so mellow and slow.. "smooth" jazz, they call it.

My question is, what is the kind of jazz that was played in the 1920's, and where can I find some of it? Artists, stations, anything.

In a very recent interview, Bob Weir was asked what are some misconceptions about the Dead.

His reply regarded the Dead being the Godfather's of jam bands was actually not true. He said that the real source of their inspiration is from the early days of jazz.
Here's the interview.

So what do you think?

I'm wanting to start a jazz/big band, and I need a little bit of guidance in developing it. What instruments are absolutely necessary to begin? If I wanted to have a four-piece band, what instruments should I have? Then as the band builds, what instruments do I add?

For many, Wynton Marsalis saved pure jazz from a morass of pop fusion and noise. Others contend that the trumpeter instilled a regressive notion of the jazz tradition. This debate, not to mention his instrumental proficiency and compositional ambition, has made him one of the most prominent and controversial jazz musicians of the 1980s and 1990s.

La, la, la. Hello YAHOO. I have been recently getting some
of the most magical tunes, ever by a jazz artist. It took me a
while just to find out, what the man's name was. When all the
long, people were saying his name. Unless you live under
a rock, his name is "George Duke". Perhaps the greatest
contemporary jazz artist ever. Do you agree ? Do you know
of any, who are just as good ? Hit me up, please.
Best answer wins.

I've been thinking of learning the trumpet for a while now. I really love jazz and church music and I thought it would be an appropriate instrument to learn. I played the piano for about 5 years so I can read music, and I know plenty of scales; but are there any other things I should know about the trumpet before I try to learn it?
