I can't remember whether it also had ":Night time is the right time" by Ray Charles in thr same episode or not. I just remember him throwing old records on and dancing with Claire (Phylicia Rashad). This old jazz song may have also had the word night in the title. I believe it was early 60's, late 50's, and he made a big deal about it in the show. Anybody know what it is?

I think I've found my answer.. A Night in Tunisia, by Charley Parker. Here's a link I found- http://www.tv.com/the-cosby-show/bird-in-the-hand/episode/12892/summary.html Thanks for your time in trying to answer my question. Now, I'm off to download! ;-) Btw, I think the interest in the song from that episode resulted in a re-issue of that album. The power of a popular show, wow!

He had a lot of great jazz on his show. My favorite was the instrumental "My Little Brown Book" with Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. A favorite album of mine.

I remember one episode where they were dancing to Candy by Ray Charles:

Candy, I call my sugar Candy, because I'm sweet on Candy, and Candy's sweet on me
She understands me, my understanding Candy, and Candy's always handy
When I need sympathy, I wish that there were four of her,
So I could love much more of her.
She has taken my complete heart, got a sweet tooth for my sweetheart
Candy, it's gonna be just dandy, the day I take my Candy
And make her mine, all mine.

In a Sentimental Mood (Duke Ellington) ?

In A Sentimental Mood I can see
the stars come thru my room
While your loving attitude is
like a flame that lights the gloom
On the wings of ev'ry kiss
Drift a melody so strange and sweet
In this sentimental bliss you make
my Paradise complete
Rose pearls seem to fall
It's all like a dream to call you mine
My heart's lighter thing since you
made me this night a thing divine
In A Sentimental Mood
I'm within a world so heavenly
For I never dreamt that you'd be
loving sentimental me
In A Sentimental Mood I can see
the stars come thru my room
While your loving attitude is
like a flame that lights the gloom
On the wings of ev'ry kiss
Drift a melody so strange and sweet
In this sentimental bliss you make
my Paradise complete
Rose pearls seem to fall
It's all like a dream to call you mine
My heart's lighter thing since you
made me this night a thing divine
In A Sentimental Mood
I'm within a world so heavenly
For I never dreamt that you'd be
loving sentimental me
