My 3rd period Spanish I class does as well as I would expect on their Spanish quizzes, but only 5 out of 30 passed in my 4th period. This is not the first time 4th has fallen behind 3rd, and I can think of at least 3 possible, somewhat legitimate explanations:
1. 3rd period is 10 minutes longer than 4th every day--100 minutes instead of 90
2. More natural ability in 3rd than 4th
3. Several athletes have to leave early from 4th regularly for matches, and other interruptions like fire drills

I let 4th do a mini-make-up quiz to gain back points on the first quiz to compensate for the time imbalance, but I don't think I can keep doing that, since those conditions will always exist.

Their grades are horrible. Even the top scorers didn't break the 90's--and they could get up to 10 points extra credit. Do I give them another quiz? "Extra" credit? Or let it be a lesson to them?

I have to teach a chapter on gerunds, participles, basic grammar and the like to a college-level class coming up. I've taught this section before and it just seems impossible to make this stuff interesting.
I know I shouldn't have to spend much time on it in the first place, as this all SHOULD HAVE BEEN grade-school level stuff. But trust me, they need it.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

A container must hold 400 cubeic inches of sand. Accurately sketch and label the dimensions of a rectangular prism, sphere, and cylinder which will each hold the 400 cubic inches of sand with the least amount of wasted space. Show the calculations that verify that each container will hold 400 cubic inches.

Show each step of your work && if you can state the mathematical reason/s why you chose each of your steps.

I'm in Jr. High School and I'm really interested in teaching. I've been to NYC three times for auditions and have a contract with a modeling agency. I appear in lots of photogenic contests and am praised for my ability in dance. But I still think teaching holds many oppurtunities at home. I was wondering what a teacher's average salary is-just to see if it's worth it.

I am about to choose what to train as a teacher, however I am confused. I originally thought I just wanted to teach elementary, but I am unsure whether I should, or should I train as Secondary, and if i don't like it after a few years, retrain for elementary???

I have not done any voluntary work in secondary, and the last time I was in a secondary school was when I was sixteen. I have however, done many years of voluntary work with both kindergarten/preschoolers as well as elementary and thuroughly enjoy it.

My heart is telling me to go with elementary, but I worry there aren't that many jobs as in secondary and I may well be closing down my options.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I need to get my application in in the next two weeks to stand a good chance of getting the provider nearer to my home. Please help!!!

Thank you. x x

They have poor English skills. I have access to prior tests, and can buy any books or cd's etc that I want. I have been thinking of a sight learning approach i.e. breaking the test down to essential phrases, and individual words and introducing, perhaps 5 phrases per day and drilling, drilling, drilling. I'm not sure that this is the best approach. Can anyone offer suggestions?
