The Incas ruled by proxy. INcas were more a confederation of tribes rather than an empire. INca's believed that the one who had supreme power was descendent of the Sun God. Incas carved up the mountains into terraced farmlands (this can still be seen today). The INcas were the most brilliant engineers.
The Mayans: created the sculptured monuments found in Mexico, this group can still be found in Mexico, Mayans began their calandars at 3113 BC, the architecture is as unique as Greek, Roman or Gothic, population was around small ceremonial centers.
The Aztecs also had a calandar, have a creation story, had emperors, had sports and games, also built pyramids

They were very advanced in Geometry, Math, Architecture, Medicine, Cosmovision and other knowledges that we don't know about them
Bloody sacrifices is a Myth to justify the destruction and genocides against Indians. They were very spiritual and pacific people. Most of them. Aztecs were great warriors too.

My kids are always fascinated by the pyramids. They also like stories about Aztec sacrifices on the Sun Pyramid in Tenotchtitlan.
They like to hear about (and taste) their chocolate and teas.
The calendar is neat and the kids are always surprised that it is still accurate. They also find the prediction that the world will end in 2012 to be interesting.
Burial rituals are interesting.
The fact they accepted Cortes in because it matched their legend intrigues them.

The human sacrifice of the Aztecs was my favorite tidbit when i was a kid. I loved those drawings of people on stakes.
I dont think i was alone in this.
