The Learning disability was a new thing in the 1960s.I am
LD and psychiatrists and teachers kept telling my parents there is no such thing as a learning disability.
In the 1950s when there was no special ed classes what
happened to those kids who were having trouble?
I hope today there is more help and they get to graduate
and go to college.

I work at a day program for adults with developmental disabilities and we would like to start a music program. Hard part is, there are many non vocals so I would like some ideas on other music ideas for people who can and can't sing. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any web sights I could get ideas from?

I just relocated to a different state and the one I came from did not offer anything but a standard diploma. We have a child with dyslexia and have been able to filter him completely out of special ed courses but from what I understand the tiered diplomas are given according to testing levels. Unfortunately my son's dyslexia causes great difficulty with standardized testing.

I do teach kids in math (mainly grade 1's & grade 5's)

We have jsut started a new term & a new year. THis year in the new grade 5 class that i have I do have one boy who is hearing impaired. He does lip read but looses interest quite quick. I have to generelly go at a slower place because of him. His hearing aid is coming this week.

I have explained to everyone in the class that he is hearing impaired & they all understand & all have accepted it & him as an individual.

How do I go about with him in my class?? He sits infront & talk sometimes mainly to him so he does not get lost. I am really confused as to what to do with him & how to do it

We have an 8 year old son who is Autistic, but pretty verbal and doesn't have too many bad behaviors. Right now, he is in a 3rd grade Autism program with 6 other Autistic kids who are all different, and at different levels. He also goes to regular ed for specials, social studies, and science. I think problems ly in the fact that although I love his teacher in the center program, he only is with her maybe an hour a day. Then, since he can't take his specials with the other Autistic kids becuase he takes them with regular ed, when they are at theirs, he is in a "team" room with the program leader working on stuff. But I think, althought I'm not in there, that there is not a lot going on. Also, when he is doing work, other children use this room for timeouts and play time, which is very distracting for him.

I guess I am wondereing if I should get him in a cross categorical classroom with kids with different disabilities and less transitions or regular ed all day. Your thoughts..

If you did, what exactly happened? What did your parents say? I'm asking so I can get a better perspective on the consequences of plagiarism and tell my teacher so she can tell the class. She's hoping if people know the real consequences, less people will do it.

Would it be possible to help slow down the effects of global warming by creating about 50-100 giant ice cube makers in the artic area. It would be like an ice machine found in fast food places, where it makes the ice on its own and drops into a huge bucket, except it would fall back into the ocean. Using solar panels and the water from the ocean, ppl could come to do maintenance on once a month, or monitor them from far. Huge corporations like Coke, McDonalds, etc, and factories that make lots of pollution and have fines to pay or what ever penalties they get could go towards the cost of building and maintaining and ice machine. This would not only help the polar bears and other wild life, but it would it would create jobs and it would probably be tax deducible not to mention good publicity for who ever participated in this.
So if someone out there has power and influence or knows of a way to make this a reality, please let me know, but if you just want the points and don’t really care take your points and move on.

Hello, my son has Spastic Quadlapledic Cerebral Palsy and we are in desperate need for a handicapped van. I've done a lot of research and the Dodge Sprinter is the most adaptive for our needs now and later. My son is four and is bound to a wheel chair and also has other equipment for his physical therapy. I don't make much that much money and we are hoping to get this need met, we live in NC. Thanks.
