My nephew has been diagnosed with bipolar and Autism. He is having extreme difficulties in school and is in need of physiatrist visits on a regular basis. We have fought for his rights in the school system and have gotten him into a school program that will help him with the issues but doesn’t provide a physiatrist. We live in Texas. He isn't an angry person just an unhappy person. He is getting older and we feel that these issues must be worked on before he enters high school. He can't get insurance because he has a previous mental condition and the social security office told his mother that he can't get social security disabilities to pay for the phyc visits because she owns a house and car. I don't feel that this is neither right nor correct. What can we do to get this child help?

When I leave school I would really like to work with young children who need specialist care due a condition/disability they have. Does anyone have any ideas of what qualifications I should try and achieve, and what type of career I could go into?

I don't want to be an actual doctor/nurse.

Thanks in advance!! xx

My sister is a freshman in college, She hasnt been diagnosed with it yet but there is a high chance she may have Asperger's (which is like a mild form of autism) Right now, shes not recieving any kind of extra educational help but if she were to be diagnosed, what kinds of special assistance would she be able to get? I think she needs it because shes so smart but her grades are average since she doesnt get the personal help shes been needing her whole life in school.

Thanks:)

I am asking as a non famous member of this club! Here in the UK, we are all aware of Katie Price and son Harvey, but there must be many more. I ask because it is always reassuring that I am not the only one.

Plus knowing that some people appear to have everything, yet struggle like me to do their best with a "special needs" child. Anything and anyone can be an inspiration!

I have a student that is on the asbergers spectrum. He is quite high functioning in terms of his ability to remember data - especially that which relates to space and history. Can anyone suggest some occupations that would allow him to live a fulfilling life? Thanks in advance.

My 38 month old finally finished his evaluations brought on by speech delays and is functioning at the level of 24-26 months in speech, motor skills, social, etc basically everything. THe only thing on schedule was his actual understanding. He is having behavior problems and after failing his vision test several times because he can't name colors consistently they are questioning whether he is color blind. He will be starting in a special needs preschool in january through the school system. However after searching around online I am becoming somewhat concerned that it may actually be a genetic disorder. He has a majority of the characteristics of Soto's syndrome as well as some other similar disorders now a huge deal except we just had a second child. I was wondering if there were any other common things that could cause this delay and what type of effect early intervention has had for any other parents with children experiencing delays in multiple areas.

My 7th grader has ADHD and ODD. He is in special ed but goes to mainstream classes. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for modifications to help him with his problems with staying on task, easily distracted, and just being defiant toward teachers. He wants to do better but he doesn't know how because he lacks the self control neccesary to handle stressful situations. The school is no thelpful at all!

My grand daughter is seven years old and has a reading and language impairment. While my daughter was in labor with her the doctors had discovered that the mothers blood type O positive was attacking the babies blood B negative. My grand daughter was jaundice for a while after she was born and stayed in the hospital for about two weeks. She is being she has been diagnosed with ADHD and is on Concerta. She doesn't sleep and meddles with everything. But she is excited about learning. She's a wiz at math, music, and art. Reading comes hard to her. She's still trying to sound out her words. I just came from an IEP meeting for her. So far the Hooked on Phonics DVD's are interesting to her and she's up to a C reading level. I need to bring her up to an E level. Any suggestions?

Our deaf child was removed from the general education classroom, the committee considered the potiential harmful effects on the student and on the quality of services which the student needs such as - stigmatization and diminished access to a full range curriculum.

Our 5 years old deaf child is very intelligent and so motivated in learning so many educational resources in elementary school. Why would they do that based on stigmatization???

THanks!

Most Special child are deprived to go to school due to some special reasons....they are at home and even neglected in some of their needs, yes parents give them the basic needs (food, shelther, big love) but if not educated/ trained were will they go. Isn't it that it is much better to educate/train them and give them their job, For this Special People to survive. for their living? than serving them from the time they live until they die?
