Im doing a degree in special needs and during the course i have heard many people talk about the county code practice as a task we have been asked to try and find out what this is and where we can find out about it? However if i type it in google / yahoo / ask all i get is info on the special educational needs code of practice not a county specific one! so has any one out there ever heard of this or know where i can find out about it?

MY SON IS VERY QUIET AND HAS A SPEECH PROBLEM HIS TEACHER WANTS TO PUT HIM IN SPECIAL ED AND SPEECH THERAPY I AGREE WITH THE SPEECH THERAPY BUT HES A VERY SMART BOY HE CAN DO THE SAME WORK AS THE OTHER STUDENTS HE JUST REFUSES TO SOCIALIZE WITH THE OTHER STUDENTS I FEEL THAT THEY WANT TO PUT HIM IN SPECIAL ED CAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO TRY TO REACH HIM AM I RIGHT IN REFUSING TO LET THEM PUT HIM IN SPECIAL ED OR AM I HURTING HIM BY KEEPING HIM IN THE REGULAR CLASS ROOM PLEASE GIVE ME HELP

I am thinking about going into the Special Education job field. I have a Bachelor's from Purdue in Psychology and will be getting my licensure from Indiana U. I want to do this because it seems like a enriching job. The only problem is, is this a job field that I can find a teaching job in rather easily. I feel that there are alot of misconceptions in the job market and I do not want to go into a field that is saturated.

My son was diganosed in 6th grade in school with autism and he just got a medical diganoises a few months ago. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and how they deal with it? I knew he had ADHD and ODD now he has all this . his anger is really getting out of control all the meds aren't working school really doesn't deal with it he gets kicked out at least once a week any sugestion would be helpful

- Lack of vocabulary skills (still babbles, hard to understand most of the time, only a few discernible words, can only count to 5, doesn't know ABCs)
- Behavioral tantrums like that of a toddler - screams, runs away, still shows signs of compulsivity like that of a younger child (hates taking turns, etc.)
- Overall physically healthy and up to date on vaccinations

Do you think anything is wrong with this child? And no, this is not my child, but is a child I do know. I'm just curious to see what people think or see if any one has any experience or professional expertise.

my son , i know is not the perfect student, and yes, he can be out of line but does this mean he should always be accused of things he has not done?
You know that saying? once you've been bad your always bad.
My son is a very kind hearted child and can be very lovable but when he gets provoked he can get mad. please if there is anyone who can relate please help!!!!!

I have spent a few years working with children who have special needs and have found it to be very rewarding work.

But i have come acroos so many people working with these children who dont seem to really care about them.

So my other question is what makes you want to work with children who have special needs and what is your most rewarding moment in this work?

Mine was when a 7 year old boy i had been working with finally walked for the first time it was amaizing, my boss and i were both standing there with tears rolling down our faces, i will never forget that day or that feeling. And telling his parents was amaizing they thought he would never walk.

My dissertation title is 'the emotional and practical impact on parents who have children with disabilities.' Would anybody like to share their experiences with me that I could add to my work. Your and your child's identity would be kept confidential and it is up to you what information you give me could be used in my dissertation. Any experiences are welcomed and a varying range of disabilities are of interest. I want honest answers and please explain why you chose it. If you chose mainstreaming, please explain. If you chose inclusion, please explain. Once again, the inclusion I am talking about is the real one. Not mainstream schools that use the fake inclusion. The "fake" inclusion is when mainstream schools group special needs students who are capable of being in a regular classroom but just need the intensive support along with it. The "fake" inclusion has two teachers in the classroom working together to meet the special needs student. The real inclusion is being used in schools that use the Montessori method. It's when all students are put in the regular classroom and everything (special education services) is brought to the special needs students.

My son is 14, and he is autistic. He does not live with me, he lives with his dad.
His dad has not raised him to have self control or common sense....has not raised him to tell the truth either. I have tried in the past to regain custody and have not been successful. Regaining custody is no longer an option. As much as I love my son, I can no longer even hope to help him myself or hope to channel his behavior in a constructive manner.
To help anyone that wants to answer this to understand, his dad has inappropriate expectations of others, and he lies (this has been witnessed).
My son is emulating his actions and attitude. He lies, cheats, touches other people and their food, makes very inappropriate comments and noises, and is a constant distraction to others at school.
I am not sure what to ask for at the IEP. It is almost to late to do anything for him before he "grows up". How do I help him? What do I ask for? How do I make them give it? Help me please......

I know someone that could not talk(or had trouble talking) and acted very violent and unusual around the age of three. She was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder than. Now she's 14 and she does good at all subjects "including math", and now she's diagnosed with Asperger's. She is a lot calmer and normal. She is lazy as well and thinks in her room a lot about her future and random things. She's not like most autistic children and acts as if she is a typical child now. As if she was never diagnosed with the disorder. Though she is sometimes she is a bit sloppy and clumsy, but isn't that human nature? She gets worried easily sometimes too and loses a few items especially earrings. She is shy but can sometimes be a bit hyperactive. And she and her sister(who is typical) have some trouble following directions sometimes also. I know this because she told me about it. So does she really have an autism spectrum disorder? Does she have ADHD? Was it just a childhood abnormality?

This is a project for schooI but I am confused on where to get strated. I was thinking support for families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing but people are giving me a hard time saying its not a good topic. Do you think this is a bad topic and if so what would you recommend? Some people are doing autism and teen pregnancies so I dont want to do something that someone else is already gonna do.
