You can't. Autism is a neurological disorder. While there is no definitive cause known, we do know that there is no way to prevent it from occuring. If a child has autism, he was born with autism. There are schools of thought that feel vaccinations, birth trauma, head trauma and dietary issues are causes, but the official research at this time does not point to any of them as the definitive cause. It seems to be linked to genetics and possibly brain chemistry...weather one occurs as the result of the other is also unknown.

What we do know is that the earlier the diagnosis, the earlier the therapies begin and the more intensive they are at the early stages makes a huge differenence. Dietary changes do help some children, as do other treatments such as megavitamin therapies, but again most research shows this to be effective in only 10% of the cases, with kids who were higher functioning to begin with and who had ancillary dietary issues, digestion problems or mineral defficencies. The key is, no matter what you may believe as the root cause, getting the diagnosis and services as soon as possible offers the most hope.

Don`t allow vaccines.Breastfeed.Formula fed babies develop ear infections, and then have to go on antibiotics, this destroys the immune system. If possible to an all natural diet free of processed foods and elliminate any allergenic foods.Avoid all flours containing gluten and avoid dairy.Vitamin and mineral suppliments.Good quality suppliments.Kirkman labs make suppliemnts geared to autisic kids and ADHD kids.In my research,I have found Lymes disease is a factor, also the herpes virus. If the child has been vaccinated, they probably have the live measles virus in thier gut and or bowel.I also believe if a mother has undiagnosed hypothyroididm,it can cause an autistic child. Also these kids have digestive problems.Enzymes may help, also they may lack enough stomach acid to digest food.HCL with pepsin may help, but they need to be able to swallow the pill.Giving supps such as essential fatty acids and cod liver oil.DMG can help if the child has speech delay.Chelation therapy to remove heavy metals. They get these from the shots, also pesticides in the food and in the environment, alalgam dental fillings.I have an autistic son.I think I discovered this info to late.He has improved some with all this. The earlier you begin treatment, the better the chance to reverse it.I have a 2 year old daughter.I didn`t vaccinate her and I breast fed her,and give her nutritional suppliments. Also,I took mega suppliments before I got pregnant, and while I was pregnant, also my thyroid meds.I was not diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I had my son,and was not on thyroid meds with him. This is very important.Check out Mary Shomon`s yahoo group thyroid. The tests for this are often innacurate, and people go undiagnosed.I believe this is contributing to the autism epidemic. Most drs only check TSH and not FT3 and FT4 which really tells the story. Also Iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism.Check out books by Dr.Davis Brownstein Overcoming Thyroid Disorders and Iodine Why You Can`t Live Without It.My 2 year old daughter shows no signs of autism. No vaccines, breasted, and nutritional suppliments.Food allergys can induce autism.Check out the book Children With Starving Brains.

The news tonight said that 1 in 150 children will be diagnosed with autism. That is scary! Lots of ideas are being kicked around about what causes this but none have been shown to be the sure fire cause. Vaccinations have taken lots of flak but I think the numbers would be even higher if that were the case. So until they find the cause, there is no prevention. Love your children no matter what.

I can't say that it can be prevented, but isn't it interesting that now that so many parents are refusing to immunize their children, autism is on the rise. The best thing for a child who is found to be autistic, is early intervention.

The problem is they don't know what the cause of autism is and therefore they can't prevent it. Based on the wide range of symptoms my hypothesis is that there are a variety of causes. At least at this point in the research history, autism is not considered a preventable disease/ disorder/ syndrome. It is scary given the rapid increase.

Autism is a neurological condition. You are usually born with autism and there is no cure as no one really knows exactly what causes it. Therefore, as we don't really know the cause we don't have a cure so you can't prevent a child from having autism.
