This is a project for schooI but I am confused on where to get strated. I was thinking support for families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing but people are giving me a hard time saying its not a good topic. Do you think this is a bad topic and if so what would you recommend? Some people are doing autism and teen pregnancies so I dont want to do something that someone else is already gonna do. Deaf or HH kids would be a good project because there are many issues that are quite contentious. For instance there is an ongoing controversy about whether to use sign language or to teach lip reading.
In one HH class at a school last year, a father was insisting that his son learn to lip read and not use sign language at all. Since sign WAS his native language, he was very angry and frustrated and caused many behavior problems. An advocate for him was really needed.
To get some advocacy ideas, you might start at this website, /www.advocacycenter.org.
One thing you need to understand is that it will be important for you to review information about the Individual Education Plan whenever you deal with a special education student. There are many advocacy issues regarding how the plan is written and the kind of modifications and accommodations the child receives. Advocates also assist parents when the above are not put in place, which happens frequently.

Don't let other people tell you what to do for your project! It's your project and it's going to be your grade! Doing what you want and what interests you will allow you to but more effort into it and get a better grade. I'm an advocate for children with Disabilities mostly learning disabilities but others also. I'm a person who grew up with a physical disability and a learning disability and I have three children who have disabilities ranging from mild to severe. So I understand both sides of the fence and I know that there aren't enough people advocating for children with disabilities. Do what your heart tells you to and good luck with the project.

Don't let people tell you that your idea is bad.
But there is an example from autism that might help you with hearing impaired. Our autism society has a program where they pay people to do advocacy and education. For example, an educator will go to a teacher meeting or the child's daycare and show them ways to make everyones' life easier.
Why not the same thing for students who are hearing impaired? Who knows, if you do a good job with your suggestion, someone might even make it a reality.

Special education advocate for families of children in public schools.
There is a great demand for this because schools are CORRUPT when it comes to special ed and will NOT help children.
Parents have to hire advocates to help them learn the laws, their rights, and how to get what their child is entitled to by law.
Advocates know when the school is being corrupt, parents don't.
Go to some special ed advocate websites such as

The site will not come out and say there is corruption, but beleive me this is exactly what they do.
