hello,

I am getting ready to purchase an insurance policy and it says that it's a 6-month policy. This sounds a bit absurd, i realize that, but my question is whether or not the policy is only good for 6 months or does it last for a year, but you're only financially obligated to pay for 6 months? If the answer is that a 6-month policy only lasts for 6 months, then okay. I know to those who know the answer, this may seem absurdly easy, but I just wanted some clarification.

Thank you.

I went to an IEP meeting and the advocate was horrible. Right off the bat she appeared angry and hostile. She accused many people at the table of doing things over which they had no control. It appeared that her basic tactic was intimidation. The parent called me after the meeting to apologize for the woman. She was a horror story and bragged about how long the meetings that she was in took. Apparently she was in one that extended over four days and 26 hours. If she really cared about kids, why would she want to keep teachers out of the classroom that long? I think she is in it for power and attention.

i'm 13 and I have a sister with severe autism and mental retardation. She can't speak or do normal things on her own. Yet she is the prettiest most carefree person ever. She goes to a school for children with Autism and like disabilities. At school people call kids like her retards and idiots and they make cruel jokes about them. I try to explain to them about autsim and down syndrome and PDD and those types of disabilites but they still keep on. How can i really reach out to my school and to my communtity that it isn't a joke and Autism and is becoming an epidemic. And everything they say doesn't only hurt me but hurt others too?

I have been thinking about getting a special emphasis area in special education. I was wondering whether or not special ed teachers earn more money or go up the payscale any quicker. I have been tryng to find information about this online and I am getting inconsistent information. Any help or recommendations for resources?

What does the bereau vocational rehabilitation do
for young adults with learning disabilities now days?
When I went through BVR in 1979 all I got was
discouragement,They discouraged me from trying
to obtain a GED and said I will never be able to go
to college.School was always difficult for me.
My own parents told me I should never go to school again ever,Was that right? After all the
discouragement I went through after being kicked
out of community college after I told them I had LD.
I just said no more,I feel I do not belong going to
school. It was miracle I passed the GED when I
was 29(1989).There was no help in my time.

An 8th grader on an IEP has been failing all year- not because accomodations or modifications haven't been done; they have. The kid just won't work even if I an sitting in front of him. His mother went to the H.S where she used to work and talked to the resource teachert there and that resource teacher has a meeting planned to promote him to HS based on his age, he is 15 and was held back in first grade. All of the current 8th grade teachers are against moving him up because it isn't fair to the kids who do work to skip into HS after Christmas.
The district policy says the parent needs to provide documentation if they disagree with the Jr. H.S decision but no one from the district is invited to the meeting. I am the kid's resource teacher and I am worried what future implications could occur if this does push through, as it looks like it will. If the kid does start working in HS- great! but if not can they come back on me that somehow I was responsible .. advice?

I have my BA in sped. I'm not sure if this is something that I want to do for the next 30 years (the actual teaching part) I enjoy learning about new theories and breakthroughs in special education. I am also not sure if I want to continue to be in a public school system. I need to get my Master's soon, but am unsure of what to get it in. Curriculum and Instruction just sounds so boring...any ideas or suggestions of something somewhat related, or something that I could use my knowledge of special ed. to help me? Sorry it's kind of a vague question, I'm just looking for ideas to explore...
