i would rather be mute, but between deaf and blind i'd choose being deaf because i would hate not being able to see anything. like if i want to watch tv, atleast i could put on the captions, but i couldn't be able to see anything if i was blind. i'm 15.

I'd definately rather be deaf. I have worked with blind people and I'm sure people don't think what they are doing when they help blind people to dress. Thay always look like rainbows. Also at least if your deaf you don't have to listen to people moaning or irritating ringtones!
I am 33 years old. I have done a course too where we were blindfolded and led around a room, it's real scary!

I would rather be blind. There have been numerous studies done that show the actual social and emotional affects of those who are deaf, compared to those who are blind. These studies clearly show that it is more emotionally and psychologically taxing to be deaf than blind.

If it were me I would rather be deaf. My father is blind, car wreck. He has not seen me since i was 5, and he hasn't seen my younger brother since he was 2; and he has yet to see his granddaughter and grandson, now he has two more on the way. and for you survey you can also say that he would also prefer to be deaf is is 50 years old.

Deaf. I am 25 years old and know minimal amount of sign language.
I couldn't see myself walking around without knowing who I'm talking to, where I'm going, or what I am near. Deaf would be easier for me ... but I would not elect for the Cochlear Implant.

I was raised by my Deaf mother, so I guess being deaf like her wouldn't be a big deal. I'm already Bilingual in that I use ASL and English to communicate with. 41yoa
Would like for Erin to add sources for the studies she mentions in her answer. Interesting that's all...Smile

I'd rather be deaf because I wouldn't be able to live if I couldn't see. Not being able to hear would be crippling to me, too (as much as I love music), but it wouldn't be nearly as bad. I'm 20.
