Should immigrant parents teach their children their native language? What do you think about it?

What is the best fire academy in the country? I would like to be able to apply for government fire stations as well as state stations and I heard that you have to have special training for government positions- or that their system is different than the certification program (firefighter I & II). Also, if you have attended a fire academy- I'd love to hear more about it- such as what was good and bad, weekends off, length of academy, or something odd you were required to do.

Thanks!

Wrote a similar question earlier. I appreciated the last answer, as I learned a few things, but neither link truly applicable to his situation. Kudos to that family btw.
Back to .....

He is not vocal but has limited sign language and 12 words. Has no understanding of written word other than his name. Has the cognative ability of a FOUR yr old, so has a large "receptive" vocab, and can initiate a thought with the use of an icon board. Learned how to use sophisticated Assistive Tech electronic board. (Vantage and Dynabox) Cost too prohibitive.
Anyplace to find similar communication board for less? Hoping to find a used one.

want to research what happens when parents of children with special needs are given a SpEd 101 course. I want to do more than just hand them the Parent's Rights Brochure. I want to teach them about their FERPA/IEP rights and somehow see if that improves their commitment to their child's education or improves their involvement in school or the schooling process for their child.

The problem is that my advisors tell me its a project more suited for a doctoral dissertation than a master's thesis. <>

So, how should I tackle this problem?

Hi there, we consider ourselves to be good parents, who would o anything for our children, we have a 21year old who hounestly had no problems at all growing up, he is polite honest hard working and very well liked. We have an 8 year old who at 4 years i felt something was not quite right, he was socially out of tune very demanding of attention and when he started school the teachers had problems with him so i decided to take him to get assessed. He was diagnosed ADHD with Austic tendencies. Still the school sy its him that decides when he wants to behave and when not too, so after 5 years i am so confused i try to be as firm and give routine and be consistant sometimes it goes the other way but we are only human, i am currently waiting for him to be privately assessed as not getting anywhere on NHS. Is it my parenting thats the problem or is it possibel for a child to be so desruptive socially and in class i dont understand the reasons for him being like this, hes very much loved.

Shouldnt they just pay attention to the question and not the spelling. Who cares about the spelling noones perfect. Yahoo Answers is about asking and answering questions. Its not about the spelling. Some people will say "go back to school kid" or "lunch is over time for recess." or something stupid like that and why do they make fun of kids? Thats one thing I dont get do they even have kids or do they just dont like kids. Yah and im one too. Im only 13.

Hello, I work with a family (I'm the home health aide and also the one on one aide for school) who has a disabled little girl who is seven years old. She has autism, severe develpmental delay, seizure disorder, vision problems, heart problems, bleeding disoder, non-verbal, sensory processing disorder, etc. Her family is having a very hard time finding an appropriate classroom for her to be in. The closest thing we have found right now is a county program where she has to be on the bus an hour each way. She lives in the walnut district, but that district has no low functioning classrooms, only very high functioning. The district and the county have both told the parents that homeschooling their daughter is out of the question. Is this legal? If the parents aren't happy with the situation and there is no alternative isn't it their choice as to where they want their daughter educated? This little girl also has private therapies at home.Anyone have any advice?
