I work at a day program for adults with developmental disabilities and we would like to start a music program. Hard part is, there are many non vocals so I would like some ideas on other music ideas for people who can and can't sing. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any web sights I could get ideas from?

Instuments are great - even just using your body. Clap, stomp. Dancing and movement may also stimulate some people. Explore different types of music - some may respond more to different types!

Oh, you are so blessed! You may feel challenged, but you are right where you belong! There is nothing that can influence people and make people more equal than music. The wonderful thing is, you don't have to "be musical" either. Many of the "special adults" will be able to enjoy by listening, singing along, perhaps using a simple instrument (wooden sticks, triangle, tambourine, and a host of other instruments) or often just being able to snap their fingers or clap their hands. (If they are able to keep reasonable "time", you're even luckier!) I often work with "special" students in middle and high school and have been so blessed to see what music does in their lives. Choose music that is not wild in nature (leave the AC/DC out of it) and choose something classical (Instrumental and Choral), country (Alan Jackson and other artists like him), gospel (especially old hymns), and Children's tunes (like Disney songs) are super! The best to you in your endeavors and let us know how things turn out!

Use instruments. Teach them to play something. You will be surprised how quickly they catch on.
