When I'm interested in a subject, I'm usually not only interested, but quirkily obsessed. I have always had in these "interests" (which have ranged from rocks to Napoleon and Claude Rains to Russian history) a desire to share my passion with others. I like to write, research and travel. Therefore, I thought that the perfect job for me would be that of a college professor.

If you are a professor, or are soon hoping to become one, I would greatly appreciate any tips or observations about the occupation that might support or even tear down my warm-and-fuzzy goal. Is there any aspect of the job I'm missing? Is there a college I should consider over, say, Duke or Yale, because of a program that would aid me in reaching my destination?

Simply put, the internet provides beaucoup de information on how to become a doctor or the president, but very little (other than eHow) on how to become a professor. I'd love any information from the experts. Thanks!

I received a recruitment letter from Harvard College, but I have never understood why. I only have a 3.52 GPA, and 1720 total SAT score (at the time I received the letter). Sure, I play sports year round, and I have hundreds of community service hours, but honestly, I don't think it is anything particularly special. (At least not "Harvard special".)

So why in the world would Harvard want me to apply? I am asking, because I wish to exploit whatever it is they like about me, and make it the highlighting point on my application.

What factor is so important to Harvard that it outweighs my only average grades and test scores?

I am 20 right now, and will be turning 21 right before my projected start date for grad school. Will they consider me too young to enter a PhD program???

I have good grades and I am taking the GRE this week. I have worked in the small engine design and manufacturing industry for 2 years now, and I used to be in the water treatment industry. (My school is a full co-op school). I'm finishing up an undergraduate thesis on heat transfer.

I understand that those who go there are going to be really pro-SC and the Notre Dames and UCLA's of the world will always tell you that their education and sports are fecal matter, but why are ALL opinions so extreme. It seems like I rarely run into people who are like "oh, USC, good school." Its either, Greatest school ever, or garbage. I really don't want to hear your opinion is you are going to say something stupid like, "USC sucks...thats why" because it is a good school, usually ranked top 30 overall in the nation and has several top 10 programs as well as one of the strongest sports traditions in the NCAA. Let me know.

My top schools (I've already applied) are Dartmouth, George Washington University, American University, University of Miami, and Boston University. If my GPA hurts my chances significantly for these schools, is there anything else I can do to increase my chances? I'm a senior now...this year I have a 4.2 GPA with two APs, but I messed up Junior year. I know my recommendations are good and I have an alumni relation for GWU. SAT: Critical Reading: 680, Math: 540, Writing:730...I'm also worried about my math SAT score and my SAT subject test scores were in the high 500s (not great). I had an interview with Dartmouth, but none of the other schools. Is there anything I can do? Please help...Thanks!

I want to go to a community college to complete my two years of pharmacy pre-requisites. The problem is before you can apply most community colleges want you to pick a major or degree program. If I am using all of my time on pre-requisite classes how would i have time for a major. Or, what should I major in or get a degree in?

well what I mean is that what decreases pre-med applicants from 10,000 to say like 4,000 in junior year then only like 2000 are accepted?

I am assuming that first the chemistry classes will cut 1/4 of pre-med students because some will realize that they don't like it.
-then organic chemistry comes and decreases more applicants.
-then pre-med students realize how hard MCAT is and dont pass and dont get accepted.

are these the steps that decreases pre-med students that go to medical school?

I had a bad car accident a few months before the semester and when it started getting cold i was really suffering from head and neck pains and missed the last month and my finals which resulted in a .94 gpa for that semester and brought down my whole average to a 2.0. It all happened too quickly to withdraw. Now I want to transfer and don't want to take that semester with me. Is there anything I can do??

I'm 26 and want to go to art school. Since I left school about 10 years ago (scary), I dont have any portfolio stuff. Are there any good portfolio courses I can do part time (I work full time) around Melbourne?? Or anything that will help me build up a portfolio? Been trying to do stuff on my own but I need a bit of direction.
