My top schools (I've already applied) are Dartmouth, George Washington University, American University, University of Miami, and Boston University. If my GPA hurts my chances significantly for these schools, is there anything else I can do to increase my chances? I'm a senior now...this year I have a 4.2 GPA with two APs, but I messed up Junior year. I know my recommendations are good and I have an alumni relation for GWU. SAT: Critical Reading: 680, Math: 540, Writing:730...I'm also worried about my math SAT score and my SAT subject test scores were in the high 500s (not great). I had an interview with Dartmouth, but none of the other schools. Is there anything I can do? Please help...Thanks!

not at all. you'll do very well in college. you can start at a smaller (less expensive) school and then transfer if you don't get into your first choice right away.

High School is ALOT harder than college. promise!

Let's face it: the most important factors for admission to most colleges are your GPA and SAT scores. The rest will make a difference if the first two are strong, but if not, they won't usually compensate. If your SATs were really good, you might have your references talk about what went wrong with your grades junior year, but the schools to which you are applying are pretty strong, and you may have some trouble with them. Since you have already applied, there isn't too much you can do right now. You suggest that these are your top schools, so I assume you have some back-ups. If you get into one of these, that's great. If not, maybe it wasn't meant to be, and your other schools might end up being better for you than the ones you thought you wanted. I know a lot of people who were devastated when they didn't get into their preferred schools and who, after going through college elsewhere, expressed relief that they had ended up where they did.

Hey, no problems at all. Colleges look for students with GPAs that improve year by year. I moved to Shanghai, China when I was a freshman in highschool because of my dad's job. I went from a public middle school to a college prep international school. My GPA drastically fell that year. Sophomore year my GPA skyrocketed. Colleges look at your GPA growth, APs or IBs courses, how your school compares with others, extra curriculars and SAT scores. 730 and 680 on the English part of the SAT is great. If you want to become something realated to English they will definetly admit you. Your math score is a little weak, so if you say I'm going to become a engineer say good bye to Boston Uni or the others. Your SAT subject tests don't need to be submitted if you don't want to. Make sure you excel in your APs it shows them your ready to take on college work. Good luck!

My circumstances were similar and I got recruitment letters from American and BU. So I would not sweat that too much. I didn't even want anything to do with Thug U, let alone any other school in FL. I didn't bother applying to BU. Too cold.

Your SAT seems quite good. A GPA is not always a good rad on your capacity to perform in college. After all, a lot of what you do in class relates back to how much you like or dislike the teacher, regardless of your understanding of your subject matter.

I would be careful about getting into a math-heavy major. Your math section of the SAT was your weakest link. Just hought I'd point that out.

sure, yet slender, maximum faculties want a minimum of a 2.5. i might recommend ou flow to a community college first, greater cost-effective and no standards to et in, and then take classes you know you're able to do nicely in to instruct you're able to do college artwork at a extreme gpa point, then after a twelve months or 2 flow over. The extras will help in admission nevertheless, basically wish that the reviewer is an eagle scout too.
