I understand that those who go there are going to be really pro-SC and the Notre Dames and UCLA's of the world will always tell you that their education and sports are fecal matter, but why are ALL opinions so extreme. It seems like I rarely run into people who are like "oh, USC, good school." Its either, Greatest school ever, or garbage. I really don't want to hear your opinion is you are going to say something stupid like, "USC sucks...thats why" because it is a good school, usually ranked top 30 overall in the nation and has several top 10 programs as well as one of the strongest sports traditions in the NCAA. Let me know.

My guess is that you've been talking to people who really don't know much about USC other than their sports programs. I'm in Southern California, and I don't hear those extremes other than from USC graduates or fanatical UCLA sports fans. USC is a good school, and it has improved a lot over the last few years (another reason for strong opinions is that it used to be considered a fairly weak school for rich kids, so although they have greatly strengthened their academic standards recently, many people still think of them as snotty and arrogant), with a lot of Nobel Prize winners on faculty and huge investments in quality.

Eh, I don't have an extreme opinion about it. Seems like a good school. Are these people talking about the sports teams? That's the only thing I can imagine that would make so many people emotional about a school.

ppl hate it when a rival succeeds. its simple. get on the bandwagon or get on the hate buggy. they wanna emulate and be like USC. im not a USC fan, i like UCLA, but i know excellence when i see it.
