I'm in my freshman year right now, so what things should I be doing to prepare me for college?

I want to give my class a quick compare-and-contrast lesson, and I want to use a handful of short articles or stories about poverty and coping with it, or about attitudes toward the poor--1,000 words or less, and highly readable. They can be new articles or old ones. What do you recommend?

For your information, here's one that I'm using:

I have just recently returned to college after 10 years off. Is it just me or is cheating no longer a zero tolerance issue? It seems that everything is open to a board of appeals that creates an air of defeat if an instructor/professor doesn't have a taped account or confession of the act. What are your thoughts, anyone?

If you need help understanding the question...I honestly don't what to say.

Personally my own parents are unsupportive, I can't wait to frame my degree in 2 - 3 semesters (WHEN I graduate) and say, hey mom remember how you said that I would never graduate...?

I have to do something like give it my counselour? or something? explain please. because i cant show it to my counselour, its online. right? I know i go to my counselour with enveopes and stamps to send my transcript and test scores, but im wondering about THE APPLICATION ITSELF. Also the essay? Does that have to be sent at the same time as the applicaiton and transcript? whats good

I'm supposed to be choosing colleges soon and I have no idea which one is right for me. As far as I can tell, all the schools I've looked at seem the same. Is it the town that makes or breaks a college experience? I know that each one I've considered has a good biology program, which is what plan to major in, so my choice is no based on the quality of education anymore. This crap is just TOO confusing.

I have been teaching for 7 years in a middle school and now I am beginning to think of what else is out there. I know there are many options, but thought asking might inspire me to really look at what si out there. Maybe someone else has done this.

My grandfather was an accomplished author and wrote around 40-50 books. He passed away almost 20 years ago and left us with his collection. We have been approached by a local library in China to donate the original books. Most of them are out of print, of course. We have also been advised by others to donate it to an East Asian Library in the US, like UCLA or Harvard that has faculty interested in these topics because a modern library will be able to preserve them better and catalog them for future scholars.

Has anyone else donated books to a major academic library? What issues do I need to consider? Do I need to contact a faculty to get an advocate or advisor? These books are obviously extremely valuable to me, but I'd like others to be able to enjoy them too. I'd also like to make sure they will be taken care of after I ship them off.

I am accepted into a university but plan to go into the nursing program they have however they only accept 40 students. the lowest gpa they got from student in the university was a 3.4 and a 3.7 for a transfer student. Should i go to a community college first or go straight to the university? The unviersity has a ratio of 15 students to one teacher and i've heard good things about them. however i also heard that community colleges are easy. I don't want to waste money by going to the university and not being able to go into the nursing program. what would you do in my position?

when i went off to college last year my sister gave me this huge "trunk" thing for me to safely keep snacks , my laptop and other stuff locked up when i wasn't around.she used it when she went to college about 6 years ago. i'm back home(1700 miles away from the college i went to) and i wanted to buy one for my room at home but i don't know the proper name for it. it's a storage bin that looks more like a huge treasure chest hoodini would lock himself in. it's not plastic, it was very heavy even with nothing it. once again, what made it different from a regular old 10 dollar storage bin was that it could be LOCKED. it was large enough to hold clothing, electronics, etc(not just to hold car keys and jewelry). i'm not talking about some 1,000 dollar federal bank bolt trunk, just enough to keep my little brother from meddling in my top secret stuff(lol)..........does anyone know what i'm refering to and where i may be able to buy it?
