In undergrad courses you usually are concerned with absorbing basic information and theory about your major. There is a concentration on testing your knowledge.

Graduate students are expected to do research, not to merely learn the facts and theories in the text book but to go beyond it and to find other sources, to connect theories, to offer original analysis and do self guided learning. Most graduate programs require you to take at least one course in research methodology, for example. You will probably read more, and write more papers of greater length than in an undergrad program.

Most courses will have fewer tests with less weight assigned to them and its likely that ytou will have to write a significant paper (10 -30 pages) for each course.

The way in which teaching occurs is different. In grad courses the teacher will not lecture fromt he book but will expect you to ahve done your reading before class and will focus his teaching on extending the informaiton in the book through reserach work

The Nature of Graduate Work
Graduate level work differs appreciably from that of undergraduate programs. Graduate students will find that their programs are geared toward meeting certain criteria.

The first of these criteria is that the graduate student should understand the ramifications of research as well as the manner in which it is conducted. Research, the context of graduate study, is conducted in a systematic, thorough, critical, interpretative, and analytical manner—free of challenge preconceived notions and receptive to new ideas; such research attempts to collate and synthesize new patterns of meaning, discover new truths, and correct past errors.

The second component of the graduate program requires that graduate students master their field of study. Such mastery would entail a thorough grasp of the subject matter, literature in the field, theory, and methodology related to the student's field of interest.

Finally, every graduate program must give the student the opportunity to demonstrate research skills, knowledge of the field, and their ability to contribute to the field of study. Thus, a person who wishes to do graduate level work must be prepared to pass examinations, both written and oral, to write coherent papers that reflect the results of research as defined above, and to participate in course projects.".

grad school is different because your courses are more concentrated on what you intend to study. there are also only about 35 credits required (for most programs) the content is very specific and teachers are not looking to fail you, just because, or make things hard for you just for the hell of it. they want you to learn the content so that you may practice in the field. you will tend to take the program more seriously, and its actually easier because the course load is lighter. full time is 9 credits vs. 12 credits, and part time is 6 credits. so you don't take a lot of classes at once.

Graduate college differs in countless tactics. there is not one of the distraction of "typical coaching" courses to be taken; possible concentration entirely on one's very own situation. different pupils in courses have an interest contained in the situation and inspired to earnings; no one is there because of the fact she or he must be. The "uncomplicated" undergraduate pupils are not getting in, so there is the exhilaration of being in school with smarter people, and the project of competing with them besides. the main suitable concern approximately graduate college is the possibility to artwork heavily with professors, and get to correctly known them extra effective as persons.
