Higher Education (University +) - July 2006

[Selected]: All categories Education & Reference Higher Education (University +)

I finshed Uni about a year ago now and even though I've had a 9 - 5 for a lot of the time since, I'm still in "student mode" i.e;

don't get tired till 4 in the morning
struggle to wake up in time for work
am half asleep all day long
sleep almost all weekend
still can't see the point in making my bed
detest washing up
still think Family Guy and the Simpsons are the funniest thing since Blackadder
etc

I was just wondering how long other people have been in this sort of half-student half-grownup state and when it normally wears off, if indeed it does ever at all.

Some people even use American Yahoo! Answers as a learning material to learn "real" English. Can you believe that? A generation of young Japanese and Chinese people learning English from Yahoo! Answers? And most of them can't even tell good grammar from bad grammar... they would just assume if native English speakers are using it, it must be correct. It's just pathetic.
Perhaps more than 50% of users are not native speakers, and they come here all for learning how you native speakers use English idiomatically. But they don't know all the questions and answers are the same like themselves instead of native speakers!

I am a full time student majoring in Mass Communications/Journalism, and I'm hoping for a career in journalism someday, hopefully at a magazine. I've still got a lot of school to go, and only have the availability for part time. I've tried to find internships, but I have zero experience. I want to have something to put on my resumee, and gain some experience in the field. However, I don't have much time and I need to pay the bills too. Any suggestions?

I am looking for research study results that show the prime hours of class study for university students. I teach at a university in Japan and the anministration has formed a curriculum in which students class schedules are so packed, they have only two free periods per week. They have moved most of the required classes from their fourth year to third year and spread out the other classes over the first three years so they don't really have to come to school in the fourth year and can therefore concentrate on finding a job. I hate the system and want a solid basis to back me up when I file an official complaint with the administration. Please help.

Thank you

I attended a learning disability class for most of my school years growing up. Through my experience I've found fear and bitterness towards the education system as a whole. Ironically, I now teach english abroad, and my wife is now pregnant with our first child.
Have you found college worth it - or is it just a title?
*personal accounts please. Thank you

I'm a senior and I'm trying to decide what college to attend. I never imagined choosing to be sooo hard. I also never imagined that I would still be unsure of what I want to do in life! There's a big part of me that wants to design clothing and go to a design or art school. There's also a part of me that wants to go into the wild and save the environment. And there is this OTHER part of me that wants to learn Japanese and live in Japan... I'm about ready to just give up and live with my parents until I die. I used to want to go to The University of Utah (I dont really know why, I just love Salt Lake), then I also want to go to Parsons New School of Design or Savannah College of Art and Design. And my grandparents want me to go to U of Puget Sound (?!?!?!) I've never even been to Washington! Luckily, I don't have to worry about paying for the college, I just have to choose one! But I have no idea how to begin to choose one... Does anyone have any advice? Please? : (

A ball is thrown upward into the air with an initial velocity of 64ft/s. If H gives the height of the ball at time t, then the equation relating h and t is

h(t) = -16t2(the 2 is squared) +64t

Find the maximum height the ball will attain.

Every young adult has their own inspirations, their own passions and their own dreams. Unfortunately, many lose sense of motivating themselves, fulfilling their crafts, and pursuing their goals just moments after they step out of high school. As a result, many young adults fail, in a sense of compassion for a higher education.
Generally speaking, I don’t want to become one of those young adults. I certainly have a desire for a higher education. I strongly believe that Fresno Pacific University is the right place to accomplish it. A higher education is very important to me because I believe it will somewhat build a bridge to the person that I want to become. That is why I am certain that I want to attend Fresno Pacific University not only for its academic status and ethics, but also for its influential environment.
As I mentioned in my recent application for Fresno Pacific University, I am still “undecided” on what course I want to major in. However, I am confident that Fresno Pacific University will help me discover my major as I progress through each semester.
In addition to its academic status that can surely provide me all the help that I need, I am very eager to attend Fresno Pacific University for its good ethics. Moral values are very important to me, and when I found out (from a friend who recently graduated from FPU) that Fresno Pacific University is a Christian university, I was even more motivated to go to college. I was raised in an environment in which everyone must treat one another with respect. My parents were really strict about teaching their children with good proper manners which brings me to my last point.
Environment, in terms of my surroundings, is extremely important, as it will somewhat influence the characteristics I will portray as I develop and become an adult. When I heard all of the outstanding comments about Fresno Pacific University, one thing always stands out--the influential environment it portrays to each students and vice versa. From researching about FPU on the web, hearing about it on a Christian radio station and through reading about it in an issue of Axis, I found out that many students who are enrolled and have graduated from FPU are having or have had the best time of their lives. Students at FPU are friendly and most importantly, they come with good influence.
In other words, I don’t think there is a better university that suits my needs other than Fresno Pacific University. I am sure that Fresno Pacific University will be a bridge to keep me motivated and satisfied in pursuing my goals in life. I am also confident, that with the help of Fresno Pacific University, I’ll be able to grow in Christ mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, in which I believe it can and will bring out the person I want to be.
