I am currently going to a jr. college for the remainder of my basics. I can go to UNA next fall and start my Biology major but if it is better to get it all at UAB then I need to prepare for the move. My goal is to get my MD and specialize in Radiology. Any advice on anything related is greatly appreciated!

also kinda needing a boost. I am extremely goal oriented but the last couple of days I have gotten a lil gun shy about med school. Kinda scared its going to kick my butt. No one in my family has ever graduated college (huge family) so for me at age 30 going back to school is extremely exciting but scary at the same time. Scale of 1-10 for those who are in med school now...How bad (tough) is it? I have two small children, will I really miss out on them extremely? On average how many hours do most people take a semester?

Before you take any classes you need to talk to an adviser at UAB and see what will transfer. Some times universities don't like to accept transfer credits. They had no control over what was taught in the classes at UNA. By the way, I took a few chemistry classes at UAB and thought the faculty and facilities were great. Good luck.

I don't know the specifics of your situation, or even if UAB is a good school for that or not (I do know it's C-USA, though!). But your sheepskin is only going to list the school you graduate from, and it's not going to be "tarnished" in any way based on where some of your course credits come from.

I'd check and make sure that what you are thinking about taking at UNA will transfer to UAB before taking that plunge, but other than that, do what you think is best for your situation. If UNA is significantly less expensive than UAB, I'd get as much credit work as possible there.

Two important things in this decision:

1. How much of your jr. college credits will transfer to UAB?

2. Can you afford to go directly to UAB?

I think you need to talk to your advisor at your college and find out answers to the first one. Also contact UAB--becuase sometimes jr. colleges think they know what transfers and sometimes they don't have the right information.

If it is what you want, go for it. Don't be afraid, don't dawdle.
