I am looking for research study results that show the prime hours of class study for university students. I teach at a university in Japan and the anministration has formed a curriculum in which students class schedules are so packed, they have only two free periods per week. They have moved most of the required classes from their fourth year to third year and spread out the other classes over the first three years so they don't really have to come to school in the fourth year and can therefore concentrate on finding a job. I hate the system and want a solid basis to back me up when I file an official complaint with the administration. Please help.

Thank you

I'm sorry to say that after 12 years of University, I think their system, although an experiment, sounds like a good one.

I find that the first two years a University student needs to learn how to learn. By the time they are in graduate school, they know how to learn on their own, with a little guidance from professors.

So, that fourth year, they pretty much know how to learn on their own. Students looking for a career need the time to prepare and interview. Students going to graduate school have many other things to take care of, and can finish their classes without being their often.
