I'm a senior and I'm trying to decide what college to attend. I never imagined choosing to be sooo hard. I also never imagined that I would still be unsure of what I want to do in life! There's a big part of me that wants to design clothing and go to a design or art school. There's also a part of me that wants to go into the wild and save the environment. And there is this OTHER part of me that wants to learn Japanese and live in Japan... I'm about ready to just give up and live with my parents until I die. I used to want to go to The University of Utah (I dont really know why, I just love Salt Lake), then I also want to go to Parsons New School of Design or Savannah College of Art and Design. And my grandparents want me to go to U of Puget Sound (?!?!?!) I've never even been to Washington! Luckily, I don't have to worry about paying for the college, I just have to choose one! But I have no idea how to begin to choose one... Does anyone have any advice? Please? : (

First...deep breath...
I am like 30 and finally deciding for sure what I want to do forever.
No matter what you do usually you have about the same core requirements... Start with the local jr college and take your first semester of just basic classes...English 101, Speech...etc...Take Japenese if they offer it..if not...get a self teaching CD/Book to see if you are truly interested.

Plan to visit all the schools of interest...do research on them on the net...look at area around or on campus to see if you would enjoy living there. Call around and see if you can shadow a graduate for a day or two to see what it is like.

Its normal to be confused...most people change their major at least once!

I started out going for elementary ed...ended up a massage therapist...now shooting for Radiologist...lol

Since most degrees have a basic common course load for Freshman, making a firm decision on a major and vocation will come later.

I had the same problem, but felt if I delayed until I was sure, I might never go! I went to a two year college. Later, I went to the college of my choice and got my Bachelors. During that time, you should find your place in this world!

It does not have to be a pick one right now decision.

Being able to make decisions and "chose the one while leaving the other behind" is a part of growing up, and I can't remember ever hearing anyone tell me it's easy to grow up. I've thought I was grown up for decades now, and then life throws me a curve and I wish my dad was here to tell me what to do. So, I "talk" to my dad a moment, and he often doesn't have a thing to say, and sometimes just tells me to remember this or that when he was raising me, and then he just smiles and says, "It's your turn now, son. It's all up to you. You're the man now." And then, I have to make the decision and act on it. And growing up still ain't easy at my age. So, it's time for you to grow up. Make the decisions as opposed to whimping out and going to live with your parents until you die. Odds are they're going to die before you, and they don't want to spend the latter years of their life still looking after you. And don't worry. I can't imagine hardly anyone who's initial plans for their adult life ever came out even close to fruition. I know mine didn't. Not by a long stretch. So, step up to the plate and take a swing. It's pure misery if you don't. God Bless you.

yes, such a decision is hard, but not after you have some specific criteria: compare the universities you choose and then consider these criteria, the 1st is the priority.

1. which is the best university recognised?
2. which provides the courses you want?
3. which has a new, learning environment for you (also, cheap living costs)

hope these helps
