Can a person who has good grades, actively participates in clubs, summer programs, various academic (such as science, math, etc) competitions, and community service, but is not in sports, have an equal chance of getting addmission into a school like stanford, compared to a person who has all of the above and was in sports?

What are some alternatives to doing sports that can put you at the same level as to someone who was in sports with all the other things (clubs, good grades, etc)?

(sry....Kind of long)

I kinda have a problem with my senior year schedule... I signed up for both AP Calculus and Speech and Debate, but they're both offered only 3rd period. I was thinking I should go with Speech and Debate, 'cause I think it would benefit me more, considering the career I want to go into. I mean, vocal music teachers don't exactly need to know advanced calculus, right? I DO need to work a lot more on my speaking than I do on my math, and music teachers do a lot more speaking than math. :)
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I could do AP Calculus and be on the school's Speech and Debate team outside of the actual class, but that would just load more homework onto me, making my senior year a lot harder than my junior year (I'll be rather busy as it is without either of the 2 classes, but I do need a class to fill in that empty class period. the problem is I like math, but I really liked speech and debate last year, and I wanted to take it this coming year...).

Help!

I wanted to know if it makes a difference to employers which college I graduate from? I have attended a pretty well know college in Texas for the past few years, but I want to transfer to another college closer to home for my senior year. This college I want to transfer to is a great college, good programs, and is close to my family. But I dont necessarily think its as "recognizable" to future employers as the first college I attended was. I dont want to have less of a chance at a good job by not graduating from a more well know school. I just dont want to be making a mistake by graduating from the wrong college. Or does it even make a difference as long as I have a degree?

Any thoughts, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

I am a 27 year old graduate and once again have to put up with seeing all the A Level results hype. But is university what it used to be, I have a media degree and will be the first to admit that it is useless. i Have met so many people going to university to study philosophy or English - and they have no idea what they want to do with their future. Are schools convincing students that going to university is the only way to success. In my experience the less academic kids who left school at 16 earn a s**t load more money than most graduates. But im thinking that no 18 year olds seem to know what awaits them on their uni graduation.

My first year in college I made terrible grades. Now that I'm trying to get into graduate school, these grades are haunting me. Even though since then I've held at least a 3.5 gpa, with these transcripts factored in, I'm barely pulling a 2.0! I followed the rules and had them transferred to my current school for graduation and now I'm sorry I did!

My daughter has Cerebral Palsey and we have been teaching her ASL. It has really helped her communicate and it helps with language aqusition for all children. We use a program called Signing Time that makes learning ASL fun. I have found that most Deaf people are glad that hearing people are making an effort to learn ASL. I would like to hear comments from others.
