I need clarification.
Should we use the American keyboard (QWERTYUIOP) or the European keyboard (AZERTYUIOP)???
TYPEWRITER (10 letters) can be typed using only the top row of keys on a standard keyboard. Other ten-letter words with this property are PEPPERROOT, PEPPERWORT, PERPETUITY, PEWTERWORT, PIROUETTER, PREREQUIRE, PRETORTURE, PROPRIETOR, REPERTOIRE, REPETITORY, TETTERWORT. If hyphens are allowed, then TEETER-TOTTER (12 letters) is possible, as is TEETER-TOTTERER (14 letters), although the latter is not found in dictionaries. Another possible 12-letter word, POWERTRIPPER, is also not in any major dictionary.
TYPEWRITER can be typed using only the top row of keys on the keyboard. The following ten-letter words with this feature all appear in W2: PEPPERROOT, PEPPERWORT, PERPETUITY, PEWTERWORT, PIROUETTER, PREREQUIRE, PRETORTURE, PROPRIETOR, REPERTOIRE, REPETITORY, TETTERWORT. These words have also been suggested: PROPRIETORY, PROTEROTYPE, RUPTUREWORT, PITUITOTROPE, UROPYOURETER. Chris Cole (Wordplay) gives TEETERTOTTER, although MWCD10 spells the word with a hyphen. A person who rides a teetertotter would be a TEETERTOTTERER [Stuart Kidd]. A reader of this page suggests POWERTRIPPER, although this word seems not to be in dictionaries. EUROPE and PERU can be typed using only the top row of keys; Europe is the only continent that can be typed using a single row of letters.

There are at least two eleven-letter words, both rare: proterotype and rupturewort.
Among several 10 letter words, there are perpetuity, proprietor, repertoire and, fittingly, typewriter.

There are absolutely NO ENGLISH words of MORE than TEN letters, available, from the top line, - alone, - of a UK typewriter! Other European, - or U.S., keyboards MAY make this possible, because of a few slight differences, in the configuration, thereof!
Oh, - did I say "TYPEWRITER"?
That REMINDS me, - the word "TYPEWRITER" is the LONGEST word, that you can make, from the top line, - that is just TEN letters long!
