Education & Reference - 1 August 2007

Math must have been different when I was going to school. I need to learn the new monetary system. I get confused when going into stores and seeing some items for .50c while others that should cost less are 5c. Also, whats up with having items on sale for 110% off?

Both my parents did not go to college. I plan on studying in engineering, but of course that's nothing final. My colleges of choice are UC Berkeley, LA, and I can dream for MIT. Currently, I have a 4.0 GPA and I next year (Sophomore) I am taking English II Honors, World History, AP Chem, Algebra II Honors, and Mandarin (III) Honors. I am in Cross Country and Track/Field, and I plan to continue with these all four years. I am in my school's robotics club, but honestly the club has been quite dead and I am not so interested in it, so I don't know whether I should continue in it. I am also part of the drill team at our school, and have 'commanded' as a color sargeant and other roles. Does that count as a 'leadership' role colleges look for? What I'm worried about are things such as summer programs that colleges look for. Going to COSMOS like one of my friends did in his junior year doesn't seem like something I would do.

I have a 4.0 gpa and by the time i graduate i will have taken 3-4 AP classes. so far i have gotten 5's on all of them. i do community service on sundays. i am involved in some clubs and two leadership positions at a private school and help write for the yearbook and newspaper. i have also had some work experience. i also play sports year round. what can i do to increase my chances for getting into harvard?

out of state public university, that you will only have to pay in-state tuition for that school? cuz otherwise they'd just be giving you money you'd just have to give back? I have $16,000 in student loans. I graduated in May '07 (6 months grace period ends Nov '07), and I need to know whom to trust in loan consolidation for an interest rate reduction. I have received several offers through the mail, each promising interest rate reductions (each lender uses letterheads suggestive of affiliation with my college). How can I find out the best strategy before my grace period expires ?

I'm applying to a teaching assistant in at a local school district. The application requests that I submit either my "Credentials" or three letters of recommendation. What exactly are these? I do have my Illinois Initial Teaching Certificate (which I also have to submit) and my transcripts showing that I have taken classes for my degree. Otherwise, I really don't know what else to possibly submit.
