I have an interest in learning hypnosis, I plan on trying to become a doctor and thought it might be useful for calming patients.

To be certified as a Practitioner of NLP a NLP student needed to attend between 20 and 24 days of training. For Master Practitioner an additional 20 days were required and at least 15 days with an apprenticeship period for trainer certification.

I am in a similar situation. I am presently going for my PhD;however, my University does not offer any courses in NLP.

College level courses that teach those 2 things would most likely be entitled those things.
I think most college level courses dealing with NLP and hypnosis would be offered at alternative type colleges rather than at mainstream colleges. Look for colleges/schools of natural medicine and esoteric studies. Get a copy of Psychology Today and throughout the mag and in the back at the ads for those schools.

You can get classes in NLP at New Age bookstores and centers that offer tarot card readings and massage etc.
If I were going to learn about Hypnosis, however, I wouldn't want to screw around. I'd take that course at an accredited school - not a bookstore.

the University of New Mexico has a complete program on hypnosis. Most Universities and colleges have stand alone programs.
In medicine it has many more uses than just calming patients....pain control for one. there many more.

For training in hypnotism (hypnosis is the end result of the process of hypnotism) I recommend attending a certification class from the National Guild of Hypnotists. They have an excellent program for training and certifying hypnotists.
