So me and this guy at work both owe more than $30,000 in student loans, and we both dropped out of school. I've been paying mine. I have them consolidated, so I have a lot of interest and I'll be paying them for a long time. But he says he's not gonna pay his until the lenders hand the loan to the government, and then he'll be forced to pay them back. BUT, he says the government won't charge interest, they'll just ruin his credit for awhile.

So basically he's saying that I could just refuse to pay back my loans until the government gets a hold of them, and then I don't have to worry about any interest. The only consequence being my ruined credit, and I don't plan on buying a house or new car anytime in the near future so that doesn't bother me.

Is this guy out of his mind or is this the perfect scheme?

... down in London but I think that it is a complete waste of time and money. He swears that he has friends who have been on it and claim that it has changed their lives.
He has always been a bit of a drifter (unlike my other three) but I made sure that he got through school and so on and what he does now is up to him - but he does have a good job and writes too so I can't see the problem.
He says that he will send me details of this particular course called "Landmark" or somesuch but I am sceptical and wouldn't want him to waste his money.
Does anyone know anything about these courses and what they are all about?
I am also worried that,in his case, such a course could actually do harm and he would be better off having a good holiday.

Do you think people really have prejudices against attractive people? When you see an attractive person, do you automatically assume that person cannot be brilliant?

My girlfriend is very smart (a philosophy major) but feels the need to play down her looks in order for her mind to be taken seriously. She's very beautiful and she told me recently that she doesn't want her classmates (and her prof - who,
incidentally, is a woman) to assume she's just a beauty with no brains. (She didn't word it quite like that.)

So she dresses really shabbily and makes a point of wearing no makeup to class (even though she likes it) so that she doesn't stand out.

When she told me this, I started thinking ... is this just a personal hang-up of hers? Or do people (especially academics) feel threatened in the presence of really attractive people? Or is it simply a stereotype that attractive people can't also be bright?

What are your thoughts?

one of my favorites, but i've lost track of the source.it's not the bible, i'm pretty sure it isn't shakespeare. i'm a fan of fantasy ficton, but i'm thinking that this comes from something more, well, normal.... there is more to it, i think, it may even be a whole paragraph or two. i think it comes from something i've read often, and really enjoyed, but i've been searching for weeks and can't find it. Thanks for your help!
