I have seen this phrase in reference to Apple, a politician was accused of being sexist when using it, and many businesses use it in their daily vernacular. I have done my best to find the true origin, but have come up short. Anyone know who originally said this?

This has been a motto of sorts that I have attempted to get translated many times to know avail. I have a limited knowledge of the root words but not nearly enough. The closest I can decipher "seek the truth" to be in Latin is "nosce te ipsum". However, "mundus" and "veritas" is all I know about the rest.
"Seek the truth and know thyself" I believe should be a fairly direct translation, but the former segment (the world is not as it seems) might raise context issues. "The world" could be replace with "this life" or "existence" and still maintian my intended meaning.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you. CBShiloh

For example, why is the word "phonics" not simply spelled the way it sounds? Wouldn't that make spelling words a whole lot easier?

Just an opinion question from an English/Linguistics major. ^_^

I've got one month to learn all the countries in the world, does anyone have any recommended ways to learn them all, or anything that might help me?? I have a £10 bet with my friend that I can learn them in just a month, and if I don't then I have to pay up (which I don't really want to for understandable reasons!!) any help would be appreciated.

My aunts ex-boyfriend is pretty much stalking her. He calls her non stop and she never answers the phone so he leaves crazy messages. Then she can play them back to the cops. A few weeks ago, before she left on a trip out of town, he smashed her water/well equiptment at her house, or atleast we're 100% positve it was him. Then a few days later (when she was still out of town) her house was burnt down. We all know he did it but the cops need the evidence to put him at the scene of the crime. SO, still after her house is burnt down he is still calling her and leaving weird messages. The one that my question is about, he said something like (we couldnt hear it real well) "The riches of (your?) foes bring forth blood." or something like that. On the message he said "it means that God doesn't want you, me or anyone else to be used as a door mat." Is this even a bible quote and what DOES it really mean??

Please understand this is not a question about judging parents who choose to do this for whatever reason. I'm just curious. I am considering having my children home schooled however, when they grow up, what do the parents do? It appears to be 24/7 you and your children, but at some point they go to college or go out on their own. What then? How are the relationships with their spouses?

I have been attending a community college for a couple of years now. I just about have my general associate's degree. I am moving to Chicago early next year and I really want to apply to a couple of the universities so I can hopefully get into a nursing program there. I have been looking online at their sites but it seems so overwhelming for some reason! What is the best way to go about applying when I don't live in the area? ( I live in Michigan). Also, if I need references, who is a credible person to ask for a reference? I would really appreciate any help I can get since I didn't do this whole process right out of high school - I am 24 years old :-) Thanks!
